5.0 out of 5 stars Please read this book
This time last week I had not heard of the Hunger Games trilogy. I was happy and content in my oblivious state too but it all changed very quickly! My Facebook page went Crazy on Saturday with talk about the movie and how fantastic it was, how it was true to the books and generally there was a buzz in the virtual atmosphere! My curiousity was aroused and I googled "Hunger...

3.0 out of 5 stars Battle Royale for the Twilight generation
I ignored this book for a long time on the basis that I felt it sounded too similar to Battle Royale. However I have finally got round to reading it, and am glad I did -whilst there are plenty of flaws, this is a fast paced, thrilling, adventure story, which provides surprises and visceral entertainment.
Katniss and Peeta are the teenage 'tributes' chosen from...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the hype,
This review is from: The Hunger Games (Hunger Games Trilogy) (Kindle Edition)I was really disappointed by this novel. I'm a sucker for pop culture and teen dramas, so I downloaded this thinking that it would be right up my street. The novel did have its good sides, but there is one huge flaw that stopped me enjoying it.
The world that Suzanne Collins has created is fantastic. It is totally believable, and does not feel at all false. This is a difficult task to achieve, so it is a credit to the author that it works so well here.
The plot moves quickly and there is constant interest and tension.
[Warning: plot spoilers]. Katniss. Katniss is the main problem with this book. She is an intelligent, savvy, worldly-wise young girl, responsible beyond her years and able to cope even in the strange new world into which she has been dropped. Yet she is also mind-boggling dim, not realising that Peeta is actually in love with her, and has been all along. I felt myself getting so cross, because it was so out of character that I could no longer suspend my disbelief, and instead got frustrated at the unending stupidity which Katniss showed. Her character just does not work, because no one can be THAT intelligent (beating the other contestants, eventually beating the whole system), and THAT stupid at the same time.
5.0 out of 5 stars Recommended read,

Recommend for all ages, just going to read her next one of the trilogy Mockingjay!
3.0 out of 5 stars No holds barred,
This review is from: The Hunger Games (Hunger Games Trilogy) (Kindle Edition)I read this immediately after the two other books in the series, which might ave been a bit much. I found the unremitting violence in this book distressing and got quite numb in the end from yet another disaster, yet another character dead. I'm sure it is meant to be climactic but it was over the top for me as a read although it fits the series I guess.
