I love folky singer-songwriters. There, I said it. My musical tastes aside, this is a great (and fairly difficult to get hold of in the UK) album from an artist who's lack of fame belies her undoubted talent. Her husky tone & Southern-State twang make her songs instantly recognisable, alongside the deft way she writes her songs. Obvious highlights for me are 'Boys with Girlfriends' and 'Under my Bed'. If you like any of Meiko's contemporaries, such as Joshua Radin, Priscilla Ahn, Schuyler Fisk, etc. (who admittedly are also fairly obscure beyond their folky remit) then Meiko will make a great addition to your collection.

Went to see Joshua Radin with my wife at the 02 Academy in Bristol last week, and Meiko was supporting him, to be honest for me as an impartial viewer Meiko impressed me much more than Radin, and I found myself humming her songs long after the show had finished. Meiko's music is quirky, fun and engaging and I would definitely recommend buying her album

Meiko's self-titled debut album is one of those records where every single song is excellent. There are no bad songs. If you like artists such as Priscilla Ahn or Marié Digby then chances are you'll love Meiko. Her songs chart the ups and downs of relationships, with witty lyrics and beautiful melodies. Hawaii is very relaxing, and I defy anyone not to sing along to Boys With Girlfriends. It's a shame that this album is so difficult to find in the UK, but it's worth tracking down.

Saw her supporting the amazing Joshua Radin in Newcastle a few weeks ago and was blown away by her beautiful and unique voice. Admittedly she is better live but I was delighted to chat to her and receive a signed copy of this CD. I will treasure it. I simply can listen to it all the way through and start again. Emotional, heartfelt and marvelous songwriting carried by a haunting voice, when she gets big, she will become a superstar. I was so charmed by her "thankyou" when I gave my disc to be signed as if she was surprised I had bought it, listen here Meiko, you have produced one of the best albums in a very long time.
I would describe her as a cross between Nerina Pallot and perhaps Chivaree. Get this CD now before she becomes famous!
I love the whole album but the ones she sang at the show stick in my head most, Under my Bed, How lucky we are, Piano song and more but all of them are brilliant, I also love Boyfriends and Girlfriends, the haunting Heard it all before and dreamy Hawaii.

Meiko is extremely talented; beautiful voice, lovely guitar-playing, gorgeous lyrics. Very feminine, warm and soothing. A little down-beat at times is my only slight criticism so it might not be a good choice if you need cheering up.
