4.0 out of 5 stars Another in the Promise series!, 7 Aug 2011

This is another lovely story from Amy Lane about gay men coming together and finding a family and a home with Deacon and Carrick.
Jeff is Carrick's physio and best friend, he's helped Carrick recover as much as is possible from the horrific injuries he sustained in the Afgan and been rewarded with a place at Deacon's table at Promise Ranch. He's loud mouthed, snarky, funny and so very very lonely he's also HIV positive.
Colin's life was changed when he found out he was +ve. He's barely holding it together for his mother's sake. He's at the clinic and he wants to run. There's another person in the waiting room and he gives Colin five minutes of his time. Five minutes and the advice to keep puting one foot in front of the other and live and Colin for some reason finds the comfort and strength he needs from that brief conversation. He can't get Jeff out of his head and he's sure he's in love before even their first kiss. There's an age difference, Jeff's guilt and fear and mourning to deal with and Colin climbs or finds a way round each obstacle Jeff puts up.
This is a nice romance. Well worth the read and we again get to see the wonderful relationship between the hardassed cowboys Deacon and Carrick.

4.0 out of 5 stars Promise Rock Series, 10 Aug 2013

I love these books, they are full of warm and generous characters. Though each of them hurt in their own way, together they are able to make it through.
Each character is unique, individual, yet there are things to love about all of them.
Some of the issues raised in these books are very close to my heart and Amy Lane handles them beautifully.
Though some of the scenes can be quite explicit, this is by no means the crux of the series. Warmth, generosity, love and family are what this series is about and I will definitely be checking out more from this author.
