4.0 out of 5 stars Good but another edit would have helped
The story itself is fairly familiar: Prequel showing some recent violent history in which a babe is parked with common people and then the main story starts with the young man being given his birthright and his destiny. There are some very nice bits -- some scenes where the level 1 villain does a good, intelligent job of being bad -- and the characters are alive and...

3.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable read
This seems to be the first works of an author who has a clear plot in their head and wants to put it to paper, but doesn't quite understand the fine arts of writing as well as most authors do when they make their break through. The storyline is interesting enough and has a nice progression. The author also likes to put in comical asides from the main character's point of...

4.0 out of 5 stars a good start, 5 Jun 2013

This review is from: Mageborn: The Blacksmith's Son (Book 1) (Kindle Edition)
This series showed up in the recommended link so started reading without knowing much about it. I was quickly engaged with the story and character, and while I found the writing a bit simple at times, the mix of humour and discovery kept me enjoying the book, and overall I found it quite enjoyable. On to book two!

3.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, 2 Jun 2013

It is not a bad story and I will read the next installment but it is not very well written which I found off putting. One minute the story is being told in the first person then half a paragraph later he is telling from someone else's perspective.

5.0 out of 5 stars only gets better, 29 May 2013
This review is from: Mageborn: The Blacksmith's Son (Book 1) (Kindle Edition)
this first book has a great plot and characters that are both beliveable and extraordinary. it does have a few editing rough edges but these are removed in later books and cannot prevent me awarding my first ever five star rating. cant wait for more!

4.0 out of 5 stars Light reading, 28 May 2013

I found The Blacksmiths Son to be an entertaining read without too much unnecessary dialogue. The characters were well described and well placed within the story. The story telling was light with a touch of humour so one did not feel laboured as one read.
I will be reading more of the series and hope to enjoy them as much as the first.

Didn't finish, barely started, so terribly written I wouldn't be able to enjoy it. Tip-always try free sample- i didn't and a waste of money.

I really enjoyed this book. Most book's with reviews like this don't deserve them, so this one was a pleasant surprise. I intend to read the next book now, at this price you almost have to buy it. I liked this book, if you don't then let's see your review, only your opinion counts.

a bit same old, but to be honest, have read alot of magic type books of late so i could be a little harsh? Good yarn, solid characters and a nice ending. Would have liked a gory ending but you cant have it all. If you're
just starting to delve into science fiction/fantasy, this is a good starting point. Enjoy because it is really easy to read.
