Each time that Butch Walker announces a new album I find myself on tenterhooks, waiting to see if the new offering can possibly match up to the brilliance of the ones before. With The Spade, he smashes it out of the park.
Butch's lyrics have always been remarkable, and the standard doesn't slip with this album. This is definitely a follow-up on the previous album, I Liked It Better when You Had No Heart. Though again the music is a lot mellower than some of his earlier work (particularly Marvelous 3), that only allows the beauty of tracks like Sweethearts and Closest Thing To You to shine through.
Thoroughly recommended - I just can't believe that Butch isn't more popular over here!
