This review is from: Argo (Kindle Edition)
I'm really not sure how to rate Argo: three stars seems a little stingy, four a little generous.

To begin with the positives, it's certainly an interesting story: charming, even. The characters are either strange enough to draw you in, or normal enough to easily relate to, and in just about the right proportion. The "distant future" setting too, might as well be down the street: despite the extremely advanced technology central to the story, some of the situations and concerns are very similar to those of today.

The bad points are small and few, but sadly the overall good quality of writing seems to make them more obvious when they crop up. One is outright mistakes in the writing, which are inexcusably frequent: the sort of thing that really should have been caught during proofreading. Another is an occasional slip into straightforward "explaining" of the setting, which, though not a serious drawback, could have been dealt with more elegantly. The final, possibly most considerably downside to Argo is its length: it's very short, somewhere between a long short story and a short novella (though the kindle makes it difficult to judge length). I read it over just two evenings, though I found myself trying to take longer over it (not wanting to finish so quickly).

Despite its flaws, though, Argo really is a joy to read, and I'll be keeping an eye out for more from Rick Griffin in future.
