A popular comic for many - which enjoyed a recent revival - was the Brave and the Bold. This took superheroes who wouldn't normally meet in the pages of their own titles and put them together for a story where they would fight villains and learn a few life lessons in the process.

One of them would usually be Batman.

This is the latest volume of episodes from the recent tv cartoon series that uses those old comics as an inspiration and has Batman interacting with lots of other characters.

The show manages to both pay homage to the style of original Brave and the Bold tales from the 1960's and more modern Bat titles also, producing a cartoon that is both fun and yet never over the top or silly.

Each episode runs for twenty two minutes [approx]. And begins with a short pre credits sequence. These are often short stores in their own right and never usually have any bearing on what happens in the rest of the episode.

The disc has the following language and subtitle options:

Languages: English, Castilian Spanish, French.

Subtitles: English, Castilian Spanish, French.

There are no extras.

There are six episodes on here [the first six from the second season of the show on tv]. They all stretch the format slightly by having several characters involved along with Batman, rather than just eon. They are as follows:

Death Race to Oblivion: Batman and several other heroes plus several supervillains are kidnapped and taken to a desolate alien world where they are forced into a car race. Where winner will take all. This offers exciting race scenes and some brilliant character comedy as those who are knocked out of the race have to work together and set aside their differences in order to save the day.

Long arm of the law: This sees plastic man and his sidekick Woozy Winks try to be as good at heroics as Batman. That's if Plastic Man's lady will allow him to do so rather than do chores. And if an old foe waiting in the wings doesn't get his chance at revenge.
Plastic man is very funny character although not to everyone's taste. But if you like then this episode offers a lot of laughs. And it takes a rather lame villain character and manages to make them a bit more menacing than ever before.

Revenge of the Reach: This sees Batman and Blue Beetle out in space and caught in the crossfire when the aliens whom Blue Beetle's powers come from attack the homeworld of the green lanterns. Be aware the pre credits sequence of this one has no tie in to the main episode and ends with the words 'to be continued..' and isn't on any of the episodes here.

Aquaman's outrageous adventure: This sees the sea king forced into a family vacation on land and desperately looking to do superheroics instead. And keep his wife from finding out. Meantime Batman has problems with the Penguin. A few other heroes pop in for an episode that also offers a lot of fun character comedy.

The Golden Age of Justice: This sees Batman and Black Canary looking in on veteran heroes the Justice Society of America. The latter trained them. And have different attitudes to both. Which annoys Black Canary. Then a foe from their past returns.

Sidekicks assemble; sees Aqualad and Robin and Green Arrow's sidekick Speedy wanting their mentors to treat them with respect. When a mission goes slightly wrong and leaves them having to face off against eco terrorist extreme Ra's Al Ghul and his daughter Talia, they might get the chance. More good action and character comedy follows. And Dick Grayson fans will enjoy the ending.

Epileptics beware the occasional flashing image in some of these episodes.

But it's another fun volume of a fun cartoon that offers great entertainment for bat fans of all ages.

All the Batman Brave and the Bold DVD series that I have purchased have been excellent and have entertained the children for hours. All the characters and stories are well thought out and wonderfully represented in a children friendly way without been too dark as some of the adult versions of the characters have a tendency to be.

I really love this show.

For the price it was great value for money. The only downside is I don't think every episode is available on dvd yet.
