The 4-movie collection of Pirates came in a different packaging (instead of 5-disc single box it came i a carton box, each movie separately) which is OK by the way because if they release Pirates no. 5, you can just place it next to the 4 movies you already have instead of placing the single extra movie next to a big single-box collection. And the quality of the cases is very good (ELITE cases) - see my photos. A little disappointing is the fact that each disc looks different (not the cases or inlays, but the discs themselves).

The quality of the movies is great - 1080p is really sharp. Naturally the newer the movie is, the better the quality (the Curse of the Black Pearl looks great in 1080p but On Stranger Tides looks even sharper, with less picture noise. All in all - great quality, great bonuses and great extra disc with bloopers and a documentary.

For the low price the 4-disc Pirates collection is a very good deal.

This is a great purchase for anyone who either likes this franchise and is thinking about an upgrade to BluRay or is new to it and just wants to get into it.

I really liked the first three parts while the fourth one was okay-ish. They are all pretty fun, entertaining and adventurous rides. Perfect Popcorn flicks.

All four films got a beautiful transfer on the BluRay. The picture quality is consistently fine, detailed and sharp. You'll hardly find any irregularities with these blurays. The picture quality does increase as you go further down the sequels. I guess it is because of the higher budget and production values of the later parts. The jungle scenes in particular look really stunning.

Sound quality is superb. Every bullet, every creak a ship makes, the howls of the kraken, the roaring score of Hans zimmer, everything sounds wonderful, powerful and detailed. You'll definitely have and earful with these movies.
One thing to note, Parts 1-3 have LPCM loss-less 5.1 audio but when you play the disc, the default audio is chosen as the regular Dolby Digital 5.1 one. You have to manually set it to LPCM.

The package comes in a thin and flimsy box which contains all four films in separate thin cases. Would have liked it if the Box had a more better quality.

All in all, a good box-set at a really great price.

The Pirates of the Caribbean films arre a really fun series of films, great action romps.

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl(2003)-Dir.Gore Verbinski

This film is a ton of fun. The plot is very basic but it works, this is a really fun movie with a big budget and blazing action and effects from start to finish. Johnny Depp is fantastic and funny as Jack Sparrow the pirate, this is his best performance of the 4 films. The action is spectacular, the action consists of gunfights, ship battles at sea and sword fights. The acting is mostly good, Johnny Depp is great, however I am not a huge fan of Orlando Bloom and Kiera Knightly, I find their performances flat and wooden for the most part and their love story feels a little awkward at times. Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa is a superb villain and makes for a very entertaining screen prescence. The cinematogrpaphy is good and the movie looks really cool. The music is amazing, the soundtrack captures that rompy adventure feel. Overall this film is great it is quite long at 2hrs 23mins but it moves quickly and never feels dull, its such a fun adventure, really worth it. 9/10

Pirate of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest(2006)-Dir.Gore Verbinski

Dead Man's Chest is actually my favorite of the series. This movie is really good. The plot is much more engaging, the search for Davy Jones' heart and this movie is darker which is great. Gore Verbinski's direction was better for this film. I love Davy Jones and his back story its so interesting because you really feel sorry for him, he's a broken man and its sad to see him reduce to such grotesque appearance and you really sympathize with him, he's a tragic villain. The cast are good; Johnny Depp continues to be great as Jack, he's funny as usual and his death at the end is quite tragic. Orlando Bloom and Kiera Knightly continue to be the weak links for me, they are still very flat and wooden, Kiera Knightly plays Elizabeth like a bit of a bitch. Jack Davenport as Norrington is great here along with Bill Nighy as Davy Jones and Naomie Harris as Tia Dalma. The film looks great and the production values are great. The action is awesome; the cannibal island section is great if a wee bit dragged out, the best action scenes are the kraken scenes and the 3-way sword fight on the island, it was funny and really well constructed, when they go on the wheel etc. The music is terrific and you really feel the scope of the epic adventure and the emotional story of Davy Jones. Dead Man's Chest has a few flaws, I feel Beckett is an underdeveloped villain, Bloom and Knightly's poor acting, Cannibal island section is long, the film is a little long and it never really comes to a resolution as the movie ends on a cliffhanger. Barbossa's cameo was great at the end. The inclusion of Bootsrap Bill was great and I love that poker scene. 9/10

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End(2007)-Dir.Gore Verbinski

The third pirates movie continues right where Dead Man's Chest ended. The gang have to rescue Jack from Davy Jones' Locker and recruit the pirate lords to make a stand against the East India Trading Company. This movie is a good movie, however its not great. Johnny Depp is great, however Orlando Bloom and Kiera Knightly are still wooden and I think they've gotten worse. Its nice to see Geoffry Rush as Barbossa back but this time he's a good guy which is interesting, Davy Jones is great again and I like the scene between him and Calypso. Beckett gets more development this time round however I feel he isn't all that menacing. The newest addition the cast is Chow Yun-Fat as Sao Feng, he;s okay but he doesn't get to do much, much like Govennor Swann who is just unnecessarily killed off. The action is great, although most of it is saved for the final battle, however the singapore action scene is great also. The music is fantastic by Hans Zimmer. This movie has some problems, this movie is way too long, its nearly 3 hours which it doesn't need to be, the film had so many unnecessary scenes which were there to pad it out, however there is great comedy and nice emotional scenes, but its not on the level of first 2. 7/10

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides(2011)-Dir.Rob Marshall

The 4th Pirates movie sees Rob Marshall captain the series with On Stranger Tides. This film is great. The plot is very interesting, the fountain of youth idea is good. Johnny Depp is good as always this is probably his weakest performance due to the fact that its his fourth time in the role. The film has a slightly more refreshing cast, Penelope Cruz plays the feisty Angelica very well and her chemistry with Depp is great. Ian McShane is awesome as Blackbeard because he plays the charcater as pure evil, there is no sense of good within him. And the mermaid Syrena and Phillip the Clergyman are the replacements for Orlando Bloom and Kiera Knightly as the love interests and they're good for what they have to do. The action is mixed, some of the action is great but some of it is a little sloppy. The movie is paced weirdly, one minute it moves very quickly, then the next minute it drags a little bit, it does help that its not as long as Pirates 3, the music is amazing, the comedy is still great. Great movie, a worthy addition to the series, i can't wait for Dead Men Tell No Tales. 8/10

As a series these movies are great, so much fun, great comedy, action, likable characters, Johnny Depp's signature role. Worth watching :)

Great films (on stranger tides, less so) but a little disappointed with the box set itself, it looks very cheap and nasty as if someone had done the printing themselves with a home printer. I would advise buying the trilogy box set and on stranger tides separate (or give it a miss).

The first 3 Pirates movies are terrific, but the fourth movie seems like a typical Hollywood attempt to keep milking a cash cow no matter how it affects the cow! My wife and I were looking forward very much to seeing Ian McShane as Blackbeard, however I felt his character was too one-dimensional - just plain evil, no internal conflicts, no moral dilemmas whatsoever. Davy Jones was a much more intriguing villain, and the other characters were always torn between doing what was right and doing what was expedient. Also, the fourth movie introduces so many new characters that it's hard to keep track of them all (the third movie had this problem somewhat as well).

In any event, this set would be worth the price even if it contained only the first three. The discs play fine here in the USA, and this set is a much better deal than any of the box sets available on this side of the pond.

I love these films, the forth one not so much as it doesn't have many of the original characters but Jack Sparrow is still good.
The dvd's themselves - I was surprised actually at the lack of quality of the picture. I have a bluray player but chose to get the dvd's because of the price and so I could watch it in different rooms that don't have bluray. That was a mistake as the picture I can imagine would be much improved by going to bluray. I wonder actually if they made the picture worse on the dvd to make it worth getting the bluray. Or is that me being cynical?
After watching the first film though I soon forgot about the picture quality and enjoyed the films

This is a lovely boxset. It takes up less space n the shelf than if I had bought them separately, and there is something oddly fulfilling about the completeness of a boxset. Lets just hope they don't bring out Pirates Number 5.

I enjoyed all 4 films, even number 4 which I know a lot of people weren't so fond of.

Not only was this boxset very good value, but you also get a Disney code worth a lot of points. The code practically bought my monsters inc. bluray.

Movies are great as other reviews testify. But worth noting that this boxed set contains a whopping 600 Disney Movie Reward points. So that is enough to get a free DVD or for another 100 points a Blu Ray. So I actually bought this boxed set because I wanted another Disney movie, I then ordered that movie for free using the points, effectively meaning that this boxed set only ended up costing around £5.
