4.0 out of 5 stars Great little gun, 2 Feb 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Black & Decker KX1650-GB 1750W Heat Gun (DIY & Tools)
This is a lightweight great little heat gun which gives out some power.

The only downside is that it didn't come with any attachments as per the 2nd picture. These are a further £14.50

4.0 out of 5 stars A great multipurpose tool., 25 Sep 2014

The Black & Decker Heat Gun is a brilliant multipurpose tool for any arts and crafts or household job. If you're looking at this product you probably don't need an explanation as the name is self-explanatory.

Other products of similar nature and price include attachments - this does not. That may be a dealbreaker for some but in my case they weren't required. B&D is an easily recognised and trusted brand which should give confidence in the quality of the product, which to me lived up to expectations.

After opening you'll notice the packaging is rather simple- a cube of card to support the Heat Gun in the box, the Heat Gun itself and a manual. That's the best kind of packaging, no fuss or frustration with plastic and cable ties, just what you ordered.

Using the gun is pretty straight forward, plug it in, switch it to the first power (down position), higher power (up position) or off (neutral/flat). Obviously don't be stupid with it, it isn't a toy, don't point it at your face or anybody else's and don't touch the nozzle as you'll stick to it. Considering there's no way of accurately testing the temperature it does pretty well to be useful within the shorter side of 5-10 seconds on the low power setting (which is sufficient for most cases). After usage you can fold down the flimsy looking (yet sturdy) stand to prop it up safely.

After switching off after initial usage you notice a trickle of fumes come from the nozzle, this seems to be normal and only happens once, if it's a recurring thing you may have a faulty product.
While using you may notice that it shines a red light from the nozzle, I believe this is indicating that you are too close, focusing too much heat in one spot.

As for noise the high power level is relatively loud in comparison to a hair dryer with similar volume, where as the low power isn't as loud, but definitely audible through walls.

I bought this to use in costume / prop making, which so far I have: Quick dried paper mache, reducing hours of dry time to under a minute, shaped/formed eva foam and reshaped a motorbike helmet visor.

I find myself unsure what to say for this one. The gun comes packed in a typical cardboard box and on unpacking is just as you would expect. Plug it in, turn it on and hot air comes from the nozzle on the low setting, even hotter if you use the high setting.
Observations would be:
It's easy to forget that the nozzle gets hot in use - so take care not to touch it, and how you put the gun down after use.

There isn't much in the way of instructions, but neither is there much need.

This model doesn't include any accessories/tools (such as a guard to keep the heat of the glass if stripping paint from window frames or a glazed door).

Used this to strip my porch and it worked really well.

You hear stories of some guns burning out but this is still going strong and will do for some time to come hopefully.

Great wee tool, purchased to remove old under seal from the under side of a classic vehicle.Alternate heat control is a good feature for delicate areas. My only gripe is it would of been nice if had come with some form of guard for the nozzle.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great value, 22 July 2014

My first heat gun I've bought, not using it for paint stripping but for heating EVA foam for costume design. A powerful piece and works like a charm. The little hook that pops out for a stand is handy for letting it cool too!

A nozzle or two for directed heat would be nice but all in all a great tool

I bought this for thawing out various bits this coming winter but I have used it on a variety of tasks now that I have it and I can see it being very useful at a number of other applications. It gets very hot very fast without transferring to the user. This will see some action when I next undertake some decorating. As for quality it feels strong and well made.
