5.0 out of 5 stars All you hoped for.,
This review is from: Break Out (Audio CD)Have just finished playing this mighty 2 disc beast that features both the 1983 and '84 versions of this classic album. It also contains umpteen extended mixes and 7" single tracks. It's been a long time coming but this is absolutely worth the wait. The sound quality is superb throughout. I didn't notice any compression here, not to mention any tracks sourced from vinyl. It's even packaged beautifully in a six panel digipak sleeve with a lavish booklet containing interviews with Richard Perry and the 2 surviving sisters amongst others. It really is a flawless release and I'm notoriously picky! Buy with total confidence and enjoy this superb album once more.

5.0 out of 5 stars this is how a re-issue should be,
This review is from: Break Out (Audio CD)There's no doubt that "Breakout" was the most successful album The Sisters released. This is a re-issue with total respect to the buyer's money. Everything is there: single versions, 12'' mixes, alternate versions spread on two CDs packed in luxury. The mastering is good, a pick for the completists. Congratulations to the company for this. If only other re-issues were treated like this one! A gem!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great CD but with sound problems,
This review is from: Break Out (Audio CD)The CD is great and I just love this Pointers Sisters album. Great joice of bonus tracks. Unfortunately, there seems to be a problem with the last track on disc 1 (in some cases the last two tracks on disc 1, and in other cases also the last track on disc 2, according to other people who own this CD). Sometimes the CD stops and cannot be played any further and sometimes there are weird noises in these tracks. This is the reason why I gave it only four stars. I can play both CDs on my CD player, but I cannot load the last track of disc 1 into my i-tunes library without some cracking or clicking noises appearing throughout the song.

4.0 out of 5 stars Automatic Pleasure,
This review is from: Break Out (Audio CD)So the Pointer Sisters move into electronica, and get their biggest ever. I was so impressed by 'Automatic' when i heard it i bought the album, and was just as impressed.
There is a lot of Prince influence here, circa '1999', with the use of stabbing keyboards (Nightline, Dance Electric and Neutron Dance for instance), as well as the Linn drum, especially 'Easy Persuasion'. The album probably works best with the uptempo stuff as the Synth sound is not the most subtle here. What is consistent though is the quality of the singing. Ruth Pointer has the most magnificent husky, breathy powerhouse of a voice with sisters Anita and June providing the higher ranges. Both the 1983 and 1984 editions are here, and really there is little difference apart from adding 'I'm So Excited' (great piano solo) and remixing 'Jump' a bit. Perhaps it was a bit excessive to have so much duplication but the remixes, 12 inches and single versions are welcome, as is the release of one of the best albums of its era and genre. Also goes to show how much gratitude we should have to Mr P.R. Nelson of Minneapolis, the Prince who ruled magnificently.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic reissue of their biggest album,
This review is from: Break Out (Audio CD)The Pointer Sisters hit the big time with Break Out. Anyone who is old enough to remember those days will recall how they had one hit after another from the same album. Many bought that album, then, a yer later, with the invention of CDs, we bought the matching CD. Only it didn't match.
The CD was issued with the song Nightline replaced with I'm So Excited. According to Richard Perry, the album producer, Nightline was the song the whole album was based on. It had the feel that became a template for the whole album. Yet when it finally came out on CD they removed the song.
I would recommend this CD set if for no other reason, to hear that song again. As soon as it arrived I played Nightline, and it took me back to 1984. The song is an infectious dance track.
There are a number of tracks that double up on this double CD release. But why you get is the original 10 tracks on one CD, then on the second CD, the 1985 release on CD with I'm So Excited instead of Nightline.
But there's also lots of bonus tracks on each CD covering the numerous remixes that were available on 12 inch vinyl at the time.
The Pointer Sisters never quite hit then heights of Break Out again, but this album is packed with hits, and thankfully, Nightline has been included as it should have been on the original CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album: Beware there's Sound Problems,
This review is from: Break Out (Audio CD)This is a great album. But there are sound problems. Disc 1 track 18 - stops playing then it starts again, and so on and so on, its impossible to listen to the whole track. Then on Disc two - track 16 the same thing happens again but you do eventually get to listen to the whole track. I have read some reviews on the album, but only one other person has reported a problem, so i believe that only a small number are actually defective. Aside from that though it is a brilliant album, remastered (sounds awesome), so crystal clear and better sounding than the originl album that came out in the 80's!
It consists of 2 discs (both the 1983 and 1984 versions) are both featured here for the first time. It comes in a 3 panel digipak with a booklet inside. The fotos inside the digipak are glossy.
I just wish that they had included a dvd of their hits of the singles, it wouldve been perfect. Not sure if i like the repetition of the singles on both discs though. I prefer the extended album versions of the hits - so adding the single versions was completely unneccessary in my opinion. There are also 12" extended versions of their hits on this package! Awesome!!!
So do urself a favour and get the album - you will love it!
