and no Rules of the Game or Boudu Saved From Drowning. The transfers are impeccable. The shorts about the individual films are repetitive and soon grow dull. But Grand Illusion and La Belle Humaine are fabulous films . The later work while well paced, is ludicrously acted and stiffly directed. La. Marsailaise is fascinating but not particularly compelling. I'm glad I gave myself this crash course in Renoir, but I'd be lying if I didn't own up to the mixed results it provides.
