This is one suspenseful book! I read it throughout the course of the day because I couldn't put it down.
Mr. Rowe has a knack for writing convincing characters, that's what always stands out from his novels. He is able to create a balance of hero/ine with someone who has as many faults as a "regular" person. Sara, the main character, is not someone extremely lovable, we see her as a selfish, curious person who is stuck in a situation she'd rather not be in. At first, she strikes the reader like someone not caring enough to be a heroine. And yet, she does grow on us. We start to see parts of ourselves reflected in her actions and her not-so-altruistic thoughts. We begin to worry about her well-being as she tries to uncover the secrets her neighbors hide. The other characters are well crafted, also. We have Max, Sara's fiancée, who although proclaims his love for her, can't seem to really show it; we have Cory a precocious boy who would not be out of place in a Stephen King novel; and the villain, of course, which I will not reveal because I don't want to ruin it for anyone.
The plot is fast-paced, never boring the reader. We follow Sara until the shocking conclusion, and never, not once, did the plot reveal itself prematurely. It's one of those books that make you want to keep reading well into the night.
I can easily recommend it to anyone who likes a good scare, but I do suggest not to eat while you read the last fourth of the book.

If you didn't know already, I'm a huge fan of horror. I go crazy for new horror stories.

This book was certainly full of what I love most about horror. It was so chocked full of suspense it was one I couldn't put down at times. I was entirely engrossed it was so gripping.

It was surprising too. The villain wasn't clear until actually revealed which kept me guessing which I always like in a story.

Another thing I always like in a story - flawed protagonists! Sara has her faults and she's not exactly likeable at the start but that soon changes throughout the novel.

I also appreciate authors of horror novels that aren't afraid of throwing as much gore at readers as possible. This is definitely not a read to finish whilst eating or just before sleeping!

Overall I recommend this book to fans of the horror genre. It was a great read.

I enjoy a really good horror story and this book didn't let me down. It hooks you from the first page. The characters all gell well with each other. I did actually guess who the bad guy was before the end but it didn't ruin it for me. I would highly recommend this book. I would love to read a follow up if the author will write one (hint, hint).

Picked this up when it was free. I read a lot of books but this one stood out to me. Very good story. Reminded me of the Richard Laymon books I've read over and over again. In a good way.

The book kept me hooked all the way though and I enjoyed the character development and the ending.

I'm not sure why I downloaded this book as the description is quite boring but the reviews made it sound exciting.it's slow to start, quite boring and Sara seemed to spend most of the time taking the trash out.Of course with too much time on your hands you start noticing things you wouldn't normally. If Sara only knew how close to revelling just exactly what was going on at The Executive Appartments. The story was slow building and nothing much happens until we get towards the end when it is we find out what really is going on.It becomes gory and a bit stomach churning. It did make me look at my neighbours more closely though.
3* because it drags somewhat and I was tempted more than once to stop reading it.

only read up to the first murder.
selfish characters , I actually didn't care if they died or didn't so what's the point in reading further.
perhaps the author should read books by the masters to see how a thriller is written....
and oh, for goodness sake why do male authors believe we they need to have sex in books like these ? the scenario where the sexy neighbour leaves a door open for a complete stranger THEN gets into the bath to wait for him is outdated and ridiculous.
what a waste of my money.

I didn't enjoy this book very much, I didn't like or relate to any of the characters and I didn't think it was particularly engaging, however I didn't see the twist coming and I was curious enough to read to the end so have given 3 stars. In my mind it read like a made for TV movie, very cliched and not original. That said I think a teenage reader might enjoy this, or anyone who doesn't mind gore but not "terror" as implied by the title.

I couldnt put the book down I love horror books and this one fitted all the boxes. It give you all the suspense and scary moments. I do not think if I was in that situation I would be so brave. You are also trying to figure out who is the bad guy. Great book with heart stopping moments and blood and guts. Recommend this book.

Well, I'm a bit bleary-eyed this morning, as I stayed up until the early hours so I could finish this book! It's a really good scary story, which I could imagine being made into a film.... it's got everything you need for a frightening film - a brave kid, a pregnant woman, a baddy so obvious you just know it can't be him........ and (worst of all!!) spiders!!! Strangely, I read through the parts about decapitation, cannibalism, horrific ways to die - and didn't flinch. However, the scene where Sara encountered some huge spiders was truly terrifying!!

The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars was because of the ending. I was a bit disappointed with how abrupt the finish was, and how everything just sort of fell into place..... no severe after effects for the main characters being subjected to such evil; no police investigation.......... and who was Ethan on the phone to towards the end? If he was arranging to meet someone else, then that suggests more people in on this plot from the beginning. I'd love to know!!

I found this book very uninspiring and boring, I usually enjoy this genre, however this book was not for me. I disliked the main character from the start, and my opinion didn't improve.
