If you intend to buy only one Dougie MacLean album, perhaps this
should be the one, creative lines all coming together at his very peak (despite 'Rite Of Passage' & 'This Line Has Broken' being recorded in Nashville, the other eight in Dunkeld). On this near perfect 1990/1991 collection Dougie achieves melodic,
lyrical & production diversity to a degree I've not found on his other albums. 'Rite' is a 'one off' breathless classic - a concert closer which I missed him performing! 'Rank' raises the hackles - my mother too crawled across their floors. 'War' drags on, but then war does. 'Slave's' shows how Robert Burns' songs can be retold to a new generation. 'Turning' uses these 'neither major nor minor chords' affy well. 'Let Her Go' makes me cry. 'This Line' uses that Nashville steel guitar to good effect. 'Ae Fond Kiss' is again wonderful present day Burns (who would tip his hat to Mr. MacLean's subtlety). 'Thundering' screams at insensitive incomers & their shrunken global parameters. 'Eternity' hangs off the edge of the CD like a lighthouse beckoning me to buy his next album.....which I did.

Yet another excellent example of heartwarming, soul searching music from the gifted Scottish folk singer Dougie MacLean. Indigenous touches upon many subjects, all of which mean different things to different people. For myself, the album communicated feelings of pride, loyalty, passion and love. Fantastic!
