I wish I had read this before The Last Day of Summer, but in retrospect it was still a good stand alone. This story is long and thorough, (fantastic value at 77p) JF takes his time letting the characters develop and for me the story says it all. its not a quick thrill seeker with lots of gratuitous sex but a deep and meaningful tale of loss, love, friendship and how life affects us all.
Some characters, especially Jerry are sometimes larger than life and if I had friends like these I would feel as if I were the luckiest person alive. I like this man's work, its so much deeper, thoughtful, thought provoking and more real than a lot of the other m/m offerings I have read. The characters are believable, likeable and much less shallow than the normal run of the mill guys. This writer, for me, is so much better than most of the writers in this genre, even if he doesn't give steamy sex and you actually have to use a bit of imagination for once, it is after all the story that matters and I lost myself in Lawder, James, Kevin and their lives. Brilliant read.
