More than a few people were disappointed by OceanLab's album last year, largely due to quite understandable expectations of an all out club trance album that weren't met by largely laid back and chilled tracks. Personally I didn't have a problem with that, I'd always expected an album full of "album versions" that would then get the "Above & Beyond club mix" treatment on the single releases.

In any case, this new Remixed album is exactly what those disappointed by the original release have been waiting for - 2 disks of remixes by Above & Beyond along with a number of other Anjunabeats artists. There isn't a single dud mix on either disk, and the variety of remixers gives a good range of the styles and sounds prevalent in trance at the moment, from laid back progressive to full-on euphoric this album has all the bases covered.

As if that weren't enough a few of OceanLabs pre-SOTS tracks have been thrown in at the end of disk 2, so even those people who were disappointed by a lack of "Satellite" or "Sky Falls Down" will be happy!

The original Sirens of the Sea has a mixture of excellent and insipid tracks in my opinion. I thought the chillout tracks on SotS were excellent, particularly Ashes, Miracle and I Am What I Am. The 'trancier' songs though lacked that killer passion that I now associate with Above and Beyond. It's the OceanLab style of course, but it's just not as much to my taste.
This remix album is almost the opposite - the remixes of the original trancier songs (SotS, Lonely Girl etc) are excellent, bringing together a more progressive and powerful style on some, and a housier edge with others. The most stunning remix is still the 16 Bit Lolita's Remix of On A Good Day, which can be found on Anjunadeep 1. I like remixes when they are very different to the originals, and this is one fine example.
The Above & Beyond remixes are all very good, adding that killer progression and trance club sensation that I wish the originals possessed.
However, some songs are designed to be chillout, and putting a progressive trance beat and synths on top of them ruins the original purpose of the song in my opinion. None of the remixes are bad, but when you come to love the originals and feel their ambient intent, you don't like hearing them so different.
The best exception to this is Michael Cassette's remix of Miracle, which is more housey and very upbeat, and ruins the original less than some others.
Of course, it's a good album, and as I've said before, since Anjunabeats 6, I've been harsher on all trance/house etc albums because of the superiority of that one: this is still worth the purchase.
If you combined the best tracks on this album with the best on the original, you'd have the most awesome album in the world!

A beautiful production of adapted / remixed tracks from the original oceanlab sirens of the sea album. A 2 disc extravagnaza of what above and beyond / ajunabeats do best - euphoric, uplifting, melodic trance of various styles. From the more chilled to the complete roof raising club mixes you would expect to find from these guys. The ecclectic mix of remixers on the album range from jaytech and the micheal cassette boys who offer more chilled interpretations of oceanlab tracks to the complete spine tingling euphoric trance remixes from lange and gareth emery on tracks "I am what I am" and "Lonely Girl" respectively. Above and beyond have also offered the club versions of many of Oceanlab's sirens of the sea album tracks. This really is a trance at its best... another fantastic production from anjunabeats and the above and beyond boys. This has fast became my favourite album and is very rarely switched off in my house, my car and my parties. As an added bonus on cd2 you will find the original oceanlab tracks "satellite, sky falls down and clear blue water" which were not on the original album release. Excellent - 5 stars and many banging living rooms / dance floors round the country will stand as testemant to the success of this album, above and beyond and the anjunabeats label.

Sirens of the Sea Remixed, great sound, as i brougjt this after listening to amazon samples, although samples were't long enough i chanced buying this cd. with buying this and then listening to it, i was completely hooked as the vocals on here are great along with dance/ trancey background beats, there are great remixes on here that make this a standout cd, i beleive you can also download this as well as this is well worth buying. if you have heard of oceanlab but can't decide which version of this album to buy, then i'd get this version as you have best of both worlds here, great songs remixed and with the bonus cd as well with extra sons not on original versio.

I much prefer this to the original album, which was good but a bit hit and miss in my opinion, however this remixed two disc edition is simply awesome, great vocals and grade A mixes that encompass a wide range of trance styles, sterling job by the A&B/anjunabeats camp as always.

Their releases are permanantly in my cd tray, which i play at plaster cracking volume :-)),and this album is no exception, standouts for me are,If i could fly(jaytech mix),I am what i am(Lange mix),Ashes(oliver smith mix)and Armin van burren's mix of Sky falls down, pure class.but to be honest there isnt a bad remix on this endorphin enducing album..Highly reccomended.

Justine Suissa on vocals was an inspired if not genius choice for lead vocals on this euphoric trance album. I think this remixed version of the original Sirens of the Sea brings so much more to the table and the inclusion of the extra tracks, including Satellite (one of my favourite tracks), makes it a more complete package. This maybe a couple of years old now, but is still one of my `go to' albums and gets played on a regular basis. So if you love polished, professional and sophisticated euphoric Trance, get this!!

Anyone who likes trance music in any form seriously needs this album. It is absolutely music heaven, every track is superb. I had heard plenty of their music before on many other albums but not one disappoints. Above & Beyond know exactly what people want & Justine has a terrific voice. Sky falls down is all time class & all the tracks have got either a haunting edge or great pacey bounce. Just buy this & see A Great album!!

Already a fan of several tracks produced under the OceanLab moniker, I wanted my hands on an album of theirs for the full experience. This is a glorious indulgence of trance beats and atmospheric vocals served up on a silver platter. "Breaking Ties" on CD1 really delivers the impression of being distant (and possibly underwater) the sounds are amazing!
