While America suffers in the heat of the great depression, one man rises from the depths and shadows of the past to take on the world. This may ring like a fairytale story passed down through the ages but its not. It is the true story of one man who inspired an age with his courage and will to succeed.
The story of James J Braddock is a fascinating account that hits close to the heart without being to sentimental. We get to here about his family and the hardships they went through, as they like many other American families struggled in the depression.
Everything you would want to know about the Cinderella Man is in this book. All his professional fights are listed along with the outcome and there are rare photographs from some of the fights.
The book is styled in such a way that it is easy to find a certain point in his career. However, the best part of this story is when it describes a fight, painting the picture wildly in your head.
Anybody can enjoy this as the truth hits home and will be the same in any time. Never give up

A superb book about a true boxing legend.Jim Braddock was a down and out journeyman boxer with broken hands and terrible eye injuries who boxed to feed his young family during the Great Depression. His story captivated the nation and he defied all the odds to become heavy weight champion of the world.
Braddock is played by Russell Crowe in the movie of the same name co-starring Renee Zellweger and the author of this book worked on the movie as a historical consultant. You can tell by the way he recreates the atmosphere, tension and excitement of the big fights. This book has authenticity stamped all the way through and is an uplifting and inspiring story of an authentic sporting hero. If you want to know the real story of the Ciderella Man you have to buy this book.

The movie was good, the book was excellent. An amazing journey and insight into the life of who I find the most remarkable, genuine and inspirational man ever. Since I purchased the book a short time ago I've already read it twice, and I will read it again as it just gets better and better each time.
James J Braddock, what a guy

The story reveals the hardships over come to regain dignity, and pride for himself as a boxer, and as a Father and Husband. Its not the Rocky Balboa type rise to glory, beating all in his path. The story follows the many ups and downs Jim Braddock has over his full career which is topped when he becomes world champion. No easy ride to the top more a real hard slog, a journey shared by his friend and manager Gould as well as wife and family. Its a steady burner not a page turner, but a real honest story, really enjoyed the book
