Jackie Chan returns to his role of Ka- Kui in this action packed sequel to the box office smash Police Story. Jackie's acting skills and humerous scenes with his co star Maggie Cheung will have you laughing at his unfortunate predicament. But the fight scenes and death defying stunts will have you glued to the screen saying "BL**** HELL". The scene in the park( which is...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good action, but ultimately inferior overlong sequel, 23 Feb. 2002

This review is from: Police Story 2 [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Jackie Chan returns to the role of Chan Ka-Kui, who has been demoted following his destructive and costly antics at the end of the first film. However, things hot up when Chu Tao (Chua Yuen) is released from prison following a doctor's verdict that he has only a few months to live, and he and his gang try to make Ka-Kui's life hell. As well as them, he gets caught up in various terrorist plots.
Meanwhile Ka-Kui is having problems of his own, in particular with girlfriend May (Maggie Cheung)...
Well, that's pretty much the story without using obvious spoilers. Fans of the original will undoubtedly ask: 'Is it any good?'
Well, it's not bad. I mean, it was never going to have quite the impact that the original did, probably because (a) the stunts had to be watered down a little following all of the injuries in the original (although these newer stunts still do not disappoint), and (b) the original was going to be a hard act to follow anyway.
Fights-wise we get a few more this time around, and the one in the park is my favourite. Fans of Chan will know that he uses anything around him to help, and this is one of his most memorable. His battle with the deaf-mute guy is quite exciting, too (look out for said opponent's aerial triple-kick!).
The film itself could have done with being a little shorter, I feel, not to mention a more-involving plot, but the action lifts it above average.
