I bought this Calculator due to the extra functions available on this model but it is only good or understandable if, you can speak German I thought there would have been an English Translation of the instructions but there is not why do the germans get advanced tools and the UK does not

I bought mine from a German vendor and, not surprisingly, the instruction manual is in German only. For me, this was not a problem, but I can see that some may initially have minor difficulty operating it and understanding the manual.

The firmware is also adapted to German. Although the printed case is largely "international", some display text is in abbreviated German. Once learnt, however, the device is works well and shares the user-friendliness of the Casio scientific calculator range.

It has more functions than the FX-991ES Plus and shares the important ones (e.g. the ability to have a decimal answer provided directly, without additional keystrokes, to a problem entered in Math mode). The entry and display of a comma instead of a decimal point (period) is not user-configurable, however, since the German market expects this. The key is even a comma.

There are 164 conversions; inequality solver; quotient and remainder function; function max and min values; normal, inverse, binomial and Poisson distribution. 580 functions in all, compared with the FX-991ES Plus' 417). It drops a star because it still has the small input buffer of similar Casio calculators: the symptom being missed keystrokes when instructions are entered quickly. With careful and deliberate use, while checking the display, this ought not to be an insurmountable problem, though. The hardware ought to be improved, however, to obviate the need to type more slowly, IMO.

I think it's worth the extra, if you can understand German or are willing to work through the manual and play with the calculator (maths is, after all, a universal language).

5.0 out of 5 stars Casio fx-991DE - More Than Value for Money, 23 Feb 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Casio FX-991DE Plus Scientific Calculator with Natural Display (German Product) (Office Product)
It has the functions of the Casio fx-991ES Plus and Casio fx-85GT Plus and plus more great functions. It's an excellent Calculator and easy to use. The instructions are good if you can read German but apart from that, it is well worth the £26 that I paid for it and will be more than useful when coming to my A Level Maths and A Level Further Maths exams. It can even calculate the Lowest Common Multiple and the Greatest Common Divisor of 2 numbers and more.

If you looking to spend some serious money on a good calculator, forget buying one these graphics calculators as they cannot be used in exams. Buy the Casio fx-991DE instead; you'll be so glad you did.

Thanks

Regards
Dominic G

5.0 out of 5 stars What is the difference between this and the ES model?, 3 Oct 2011

Is it worth the extra money? Does anybody know? I think I'll stick to the other one unless somebody can point out a reason.
