Grayson Adams is an arisocratic younger son who, under a pseudonym, has made a fortune painting and selling erotica and on the side "doing" his lower class models, but he's got a bit bored. At other times he attends society functions and we're told he wonders what it would be like to do 'his' paintings of society virgins...however we're not given insight into these wonderings or why, for him, there would be any difference from his normal models. Sarah is a Lady who has been 'out' for 5 years and still unmarried; we're told she'd like to give up the society thing and travel. Her mother won't let her. So, to start raising her own funds, Sarah answers an ad to be an artists model and... Sarah and Grayson meet (though of course they should have been meeting for years at society functions).

This is a short bit of erotica that reads rather like the sketchy outline, for what would have been a great Emma Holly novel. The outline is good, but there is no proper building of characters, barely any insight into Grayson or Sarah, almost no period feel and in places no attempt at realism...why would a Victorian aristocratic virgin take off almost all her clothes, without a seconds hesitation or soul searching, within less than 5 minutes of "meeting" a man, even if she is to be his artistic model? Also HOW could she have got out of those clothes, without help, in less than 20 minuits. Just think about it; trying to unhook a gown, untie petticotes, handle a hoop and unhook your own corset all in a glare of candlelight with a strange man watching? But in this piece of writting the whole thing is over and done in the time it takes to shed your "slouching" clothes and with as little thought.

There is potential here; the sex scenes, being the only bits that are...excuse the pun...rather more fleshed out have a good flow, some feeling and don't make you cringe with cheesy discriptors. However, without more emotional depth, a smoother continuity and at least token realism it fails to be more than an hour or so's fluff. It's the failure of potential that is the most disappointing.
"Could do better" for your report card.

Very unlike any other historical books I've read before. Quite interesting but the ending is expected. Not enough development in the romance area though.. feels like it was too rushed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sexual Delight, 29 July 2011

Mrs. Leanne A. Lingwood (Leeds, England) - See all my reviews

This review is from: Eye of the Beholder, An Erotic Romance (Kindle Edition)
My summary of the book - Sarah wants adventure so when she sees an advertisement for an artist model she goes along to seek funds for her adventure. But its not normal modelling especially for a innocent but she goes along with what the mysterious artist demands and soon discovers new joys and pleasure in life.

Thoughts on the characters - Sarah is desperate to get from under her mother and seek adventure of travelling abroad but she needs funds to do this. When she goes to the artist house to do the modelling she is shocked at what he wants her to do but she does it. Soon she is experiencing things that no young innocent should feel and doesn't know what to do. She becomes a different person under the attentions of the artist so when she is in society she is back to being shy and unnoticeable so it makes it even harder for her to work out why Grayson is paying her attention when he is mysterious and doesn't talk much to young innocents.
Grayson is frustrated when he loses his touch and needs a new muse to get creativeness back so when Sarah turns up at his house he is shocked especially as she could blow his cover so he has to pretend he is someone else without her knowing. He is even more shocked by his reaction to Sarah as they set her sexual poses and finds his control slowly slipping. He is even more confused when he starts to pursue her in society knowing it is causing talk but he can't stay away from her.

Overall thoughts - Brilliant short story of sexual delights in a historical setting. It is very sensual with Sarah learning about herself and the pleasures that your body can have and she definitely goes through a interesting lesson in life.
