Much vaunted in the blues circuit, Harman is actually an old school soul singer who brings an updated version of a vintage rock-meets-soul-meets gospel-meets-blues soundscape of Joe Cockers 'Mad Dog and Englishman' ilk A powerful and highly emotive vocalist with outstanding phrasing, Harman pulls off the clever trick of sounding both classic and unique all at the same time. This recording is no doubt highly representative of her live offering (great, gritty recording by the way..you really do feel like you are there!) and she enjoys the patronage of a great band of A list session players who chug along in a most knowing way. Good as this all is (and it is!), the inside word is the debut studio record will be well worth the wait, as Harman is an equally impressive vocalist working stripped back, emotive and intimate material who has, allegedly, saved her 'best' songs for the studio album. A must buy record from a fast rising artist who one who is most certainly one to watch. And English too.
