For The Seasons, Haydn was more adventurous than ever before in terms of harmony and instrumentation. Written when the composer was almost seventy years old, the work is something really quite special. Pastoral scenes are depicted through a mass of forces combining soloists, chorus and orchestra. This recording is captivating, with all the elements of the oratorio awarded due precision. The young vocal talent is also a perk - Miah Persson shines. Sir Colin Davis and the LSO are once again triumphant with a release of exceptional quality.
