4.0 out of 5 stars Truly Spellbound, 3 Nov 2012
This review is from: Live! (Audio CD)
This album serves as a great testament to a much under-valued musician from a truly golden
era of Rock Music. Each track tends to represents high-energy electric guitar based rock
at its best. Pride of place however, must go to the track 'Daydream', eight minutes of
reflective, almost unearthly music which any alienated soul can relate to.
Every time I listen to this track I do indeed become 'Spellbound' and I become only
too aware of a sense of spiritual yearning without ever forgetting that great Rock Music
is great Rock Music and nothing more.

This album also serves as an example of the concept of 'The Great Live-Album'
which reached its height at about the time in which this album first came out.
For that reason alone, I would recommend this CD to any lover of high-class
Rock who just wants musical entertainment, delivered by one of Rock's
uncompromising Anti-Stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Unsung Hero, 8 July 2013

(VINE VOICE)    (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Live! (Audio CD)
Remember those heady days when everyone wanted to emulate Hendrix? Well one notable player certainly did and he was ex Procol Harum guitarist extraordinaire, Robin Trower! While everyone was busy talking about the style and technique of JH, Robin was busily doing the business and his first three studio albums TWICE REMOVED FROM YESTERDAY, BRIDGE OF SIGHS and FOR EARTH BELOW whilst definitively of the blues based rock variety, had the Trower hallmark stamped all over them - quality songcraft with quality vocals (and bass!) from Jim Dewar (ex of the excellent Stone The Crows) and of course, the haunting, fluid lines from Trowers' Strat!
So, when the band went out on the road, this was an act that you simply had to see over and over because live, was without doubt, where Mr Trower truly excelled, adding sheer magic to the aformentioned studio albums' big hitters.
And so, of course, when this album hit the stores (in vinyl) I was already at the head of the queue with money in hand to take home my slice of this man's virtuosity! And over the years, "LIVE" is one of those albums I come back to time and again simply because it is a record of such power and timelessness and proof, if it were needed, of the numerous facets of the electric guitar in the hands of an entirely unassuming master of his craft, ably accompanied by Jimmy and, on this occasion Bill Lordon on drums.
If ever a band sounded far more than the sum of it's parts, then "LIVE" is the album that exemplifies this trait. Witness the ethereal lines of "Daydream" "I Can't Wait Much Longer" and the beautiful "Alethea" and you'll know what I am talking about - and "Too Rolling Stoned" "Rock Me Baby" and "Little Bit Of Sympathy" if you like things a little more from the rock side!
Without doubt, one of the finer live albums that you'll ever clap ears on and, bearing in mind the vintage, you'll be surprised to find how good the recorded sound is.
Just BUY!

5.0 out of 5 stars ROBIN TROWER LIVE!, 10 Dec 2012

This is my favourite Robin Trower album and also,in my opinion, one of the greatest live albums. A treat for guitarists, singers and drummers alike and the perfect example of what a 3 piece band is capable of.
Trower is at his best live on stage, away from the confines of the studio, and on this recording he is more than ably assisted by the late, great James Dewar on vocals/bass and Bill Lordan on drums, who delivers a drum solo masterclass on "Alethea."
The only slight criticism I have of this album,is that it is way too short(7 tracks in all),but that doesn't stop me from giving it 5 stars and encouraging more people to buy it.
