Finally a pianist who does not bang the keys when playing the Gymnopedies! I have sampled a number of recordings and have found the tone of the pianists to be surprisingly harsh. Joanna MacGregor finds just the right touch with these meditative pieces. I would be interested to know what type of piano she is playing.

This is an excellent disc. Macgregor's playing is sensitive, elegant, accurate and considered. The phrasing is musical and perfectly suits the music's wistful, dying fall. The apparent simplicity is neither exaggerated nor abused, which makes a pleasant change. Nor is it over-pedalled.

This is not, of course, a recital, but a collection of Satie's piano music. That one can become sick of it after too long an exposure is not Macgregor's fault.

Too much reverb and quite heavy-handed. A more intimate recording would have been easier to listen to.

Wonderful music. In my opinion Joanna MacGregor is the very best interpreter of Erik Satie's music. This CD is fantastic.
