5.0 out of 5 stars Heartbreaking story about love, betrayal and misplaced blame.
Kathleen Shoop is a truly gifted writer. I loved this book. Wonderfully descriptive prose, emotionally intelligent, and a real page turner. It is a heartbreaking portrayal of a woman, Jeanie, trapped in a miserable, loveless marriage to a selfish, lazy husband. 3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite my usual read.
Different to books I usually read.
Rather slow at times and somehow the characters did not grab me.
Not sure if this is a 'First' for this author but it did not really inspire me to look for others

This review is from: The Last Letter (Book 1- The Letter Series) (Kindle Edition)
A compelling story about a family who have to move to the Dakota Territory in the late 1800s, changing everything about their life to start afresh. However their problems follow them resulting in tragic consequences and a rift that affects them all. Full of character and well written emotions.

An engaging read and a haunting story of family, betrayal and sacrifice.

Her family fortune is lost and she ends up living in a dug-out on the prairie with useless husband and struggling to keep her children alive. Yet Jeanie's daughter,Katherine, grows up hating and blaming her for the unhappy times on the prairie and after, and it is only when Jeanie is dying that Katherine discovers the truth, through reading a letter - the Last Letter of the title.
