5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!
I've played all of the Disgaea series so far and this is one of the best:

Caveat Emptor. Make sure the product you receive is in fact the EU release as the picture would illustrate (12 Pegi) and NOT Teen rated which is the USA release - also check the code on the side - you are looking for BLEUxxxxx and NOT BLUSxxxx - both will work on a UK PS3 HOWEVER you will NOT be able to use DLC bought from the UK PSN Store on the USA release, I have just...

I've played all of the Disgaea series so far and this is one of the best:

[Story]

This entry in the series has you follow Valvatorez's quest to show the Netherworld the power of sardines! The world is filled with wacky and interesting characters and you'll encounter many of them whilst playing the game. There are some cameo's from the older games too but you don't need any prior knowledge to enjoy them or the story.

[Graphics]

The graphics are a major improvement on Disgaea 3's low res sprites. You can see details clearly this time and world looks so more colourful. The skills and maps have been given HD treatment too and it all looks fantastic.

[Gameplay]

The strategy role playing mechanics are fairly simple to get a grasp of and the tutorial is great at explaining what everything does. Furthermore, the gameplay mechanics have been refined further for Disgaea 4 so there's plenty for old and new fans to discover. The main story lasts around 30-40 hours and after this there is a lot of things to do such as defeating even harder bosses as well as new stages and maps. Be warned though, if you want to get the most out of the game it involves a LOT of grinding: leveling up items, characters etc. (especially if you're trying to get a platinum trophy). All of this takes a lot of time and if it doesn't sound appealing there's still plenty to enjoy in the main quest. A new addition is the map editor which lets you create your own maps and play other people's. I found it slightly disappointing that you had to grind CP just to be able to purchase new things for your map but I suppose it does encourage you to play other people's maps. There's also the item world, character world, new character classes and the campaign board to play around with so there's hours and hours of gameplay to enjoy.

[Overall]

I'd recommend this to both fans and new people to the series. There's lots of fun to discover so it's worth trying it out!

5.0 out of 5 stars The power of Sardines!, 11 April 2012

I've not had this for long so I'll keep it brief, but first impressions are wonderful. If you're a fan of the Disgaea or any in the Nippon Ichi RPG series then this won't disappoint: its instantly engaging story and improved graphics will grab you.

The storyline so far is once again outrageous and splendidly silly, opening with the wonderful power of sardines, no less.

The gameplay is in its usual turn based 'board-game' style form with some new features and similar features to that of previous titles- especially that of Disgaea 3.

The graphics and character designs are still 2D animations mixed in with the edgy 3D landscapes, however the graphics of both have increased, especially the 2D elements leaving you with lots of detail to eye-up.

The sound, music and voice acting are also top. The musical score being of a familiar style and the SFX of the past games. The voice acting is very good, bar a few characters which are a little unsuited to their roles.

All in all so far I'd give it top marks, Dood.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, 8 Mar 2012

Awesome t/s (tactical/strategy) rpg from nis. My first disgaea and first nis game and i love it. The gameplay has levels of depth that mean new starters will pick up enough to get qlong with, whilst the options for awesome combos, plus all manner of lifting/throwing et al give veterans or rpg vets the chance to really get involved and revel in the vast mechanics on display.
The length of the game is nearly unlimited (each item is a multi leveld dungeon, where completing each level actually levels up the item itself, making the equip better whilst allowing a good ammount of level grinding for the characters). The main story whilst long is actually a massive tutorial for the end game goodness.
This game is something to be enjoyed by any rpg nut, but is extremely japaneese, you have been warned.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nippon Ichi on top form, 3 Feb 2012

I thought Disgaea 3 was good, but this is so much better.
Graphics are better, which isnt saying much for sprites, but they are a lot more clearer.

Of course the story lines are always a weird thing when it comes to these games and this one is no exception.
- Main character is a vampire with a fixation on sardines.
- Prinny's are more of a focal point in this one.
- Levels in my opinion are a lot more challenging.
- Sound and voice acting is top quality

This is without a doubt one of my favourite games of the year. And is going to be a long session to try and get the platinum trophy. But to all the trophy hunters out there, it's easier to do then Disgaea 3.
This is worth the buy if you've gotten the others, but if your just starting out on RPG's or whatever then it this is a good game to buy.

10/10 easy

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for fans of the series!, 8 Feb 2012

Disgaea is a turn based strategy puzzle RPG that is easy to play but hard to master!

As usual disgaea 4 sticks to the dark humour of the netherworld, but this time with more of a meaningful plotline!

There's some fun new things added to the series like being able to make your own maps, town and pirate ship. There's a few new character classes, but they replace some removed characters!

This game is great for diehard fans of the series and for those new to the series!
However if u didn't like disgaea 3 you possibly wont like this game!

Hope this helps!

I've been a fan of the Disgaea series ever since the first one and this is probably the best one so far until Disgaea D2 comes out because that one is supposed to be awsome!
