The second book in this series does not fail to entertain. This time the humans take the fight to the minith and we get to see more worlds as the author expands the galaxy in which the novels are set.I downloaded this the day it became available and again found myself immersed for hours. Its a great addition to the genre and I'm eagerly and sadly awaiting the conclusion of the trilogy.

All though this one is not as fast paced as the first one, it fleshes out the main characters and the story for the big showdown that is the third book, so stick with it as it well worth it.

Hmmm. I read the first in the series and whilst I had to suspend a fair amount of belief (I know its sci-fi, but you still have to connect) it sort of just hung in there. Just enough to make me buy this to see what happened next and partially on the reviews. Which should be read with some skepticism I feel now.Big mistake because there are more plot holes than a fishing net. The characters are slightly less one dimensional than a cardboard cut out and the writing has, if anything degenerated. Whilst one does have to suspend reality when reading a science fiction book, there should be some level of reality or consistency. It's just not here at all to be honest. If you think about it a race of eight foot tall warriors who have conquered 14 worlds are not going to be daft enough to have practically no defences or means of fighting a war. The slight vestige of light at the end of the tunnel is the carry on of the story from book one which in the hands of a good writer would probably make a pretty good space opera in the EE Doc Smith mold. Unfortunately this is just too bad for me to continue with any other books. |
