5.0 out of 5 stars An antidote to the irrelevancies of academia, 27 Jun. 2008
An impassioned and cogent call for acadmics, specifically historians, to cease their striving for the unattainable and undesirable goal of objectivity which leads to useless, indulgent, irrelevant scholarship, and instead allow the needs of the present, and the values of the scholar to determine their aims, never, of course, sacrificing accuracy or rigour, yet consistently aiming to use the privileged position awarded to them by society to create works of relevance and value.

An important message, as relevent today as it ever has been, written with the humour and clarity that is typical of all Zinn's work.
