4.0 out of 5 stars Star Wars Clone Wars Season 3 (Blu-Ray)
Some interesting ideas in this series, exploring the force, Ventress revenge with the Nightsisters/Savage Opress and some great action sequences, especially the battle for Kamino and Wookie hunt, which sees the return of Chewbacca but too many dull Coruscant episodes in my opinion and all placed in the first half of the season for some reason. I think IGN summed the season up perfectly, A lot of boring, followed by a lot of awesome!

A lot of reviews say this is a mixed season, one of two halves and not as good as season 2. While I agree with some aspects of these reviews, I can't help but in some ways disagree. Season 1 was a decent start and what mainly kept me watching into season 2 was how good hostage crisis was. Season 2 definitely delivered, it had brilliant action and good stories, however I can't help but think that it was still an out and out action adventure which had still to come into its own. This season is where it solidifies itself as a TV programme that can really up the anti. Although there are a fair few political episodes the only episode, it does show the show is not all about one thing, and does expand and make clear the strong political storyline that runs through the films. An episode like Heroes on Both Sides perfectly illustrates this, and definitely excuses the others, as it does a great job of showing us another side of the separatists and the corruption that is really taking place in the universe. This season is also where I really started to believe in Ashoka as a character, she had her moments before, but here you could now see that in season 1 and 2, the creators were setting her up as a girl who goes through growing up and learns lessons. Her parts in the Mandalore episodes, Assassin, Heroes on Both Sides, Ghosts of Mortis and the season finale, really show how she has adapted her best qualities and how she isn't just a 2 dimensional character, but a character that has grown and learnt a lot, with a lot on her shoulders this season makes it even more interesting to see the fate of her.

Season 2 really did make the episodes into mini movies, and had some good stories like those of Mandalore, Geonosis and the Boba Fett saga, this season really makes it about the characters and ups the stakes, making it not just about situations, planets and one off characters, but characters that are constants in the show. First off we get to see the great end of Ziro the Hutts story, which is very surprising indeed. The makers really have fun with this story and the Hutts; with an great turn of events. The Kamino episodes also get you supporting familiar clones and make the personal journey of the clones in this series all the more clear. The Citadel episodes are filled with suspense and great action, with a great appearence of Evan Piell. The Season finale shows how far the animation quality has come and shows how accessible to the world types of stories are, in tribute to other franchises. The Mortis saga is very interesting to see a different take on the force, full of wonder and really pushes the boat out in terms of what can be done, and with a good appearence by Liam Neeson. But the highlight is definitely the saga of Savage Oppress and Ventress which the strength is in the sheer end situation which sees a character really used in a brilliantly evil conflict, filled with great characters and action, this is the saga that shows this series can bring so much more to the world of star wars with exciting stories not yet heard or seen.

If there were any negatives it would be Anakins dark turn in the Mortis trilogy was too much of an obvious move and made his turn in the films a bit less dramatic, especially as the situation is weakened by a simple erase memory solution. What Anakin does should not be seen before as it is what flips this entire star wars story around as seen by episode 3 and so should be left as a stand alone set of sequences and not something that has been hinted at before by time line. that side Persuit of Peace is a messy and repetative story and Sphere of Influence is possibly a bit boring but this is definitely a must get as its sure to look stunning as have the other series and really pushes the boat out.

The reason I didnt enjoy this season compared to previous blu ray's is the presentation. There is now NO menu animation and the booklet is absent. The special features are quite enjoyable, and some could argue that the booklet's content is layered within the special features.

Star Wars fans enjoy, just dont expect your children to understand some of the earlier political episodes.

I cannot give less than 5 stars. Most of these are little Star Wars movies, and that says enough.
Not all episodes are suitable for kids of all ages, whcih makes the middle aged fanboy in me appreciate them even more.
The Blu-ray features deleted scenes as well.
