5.0 out of 5 stars Great value for money
Absolute Bargain. The spec of this laptop is very impressive, i had seen laptops with half the RAM and HDD for much more. I even found an exact match in terms of motherboard and model but with 140gb less HDD and 3gb less ram for £129 more.
Laptop arrived quickly, was very easy to set up - all drivers are pre-installed so it was just a case of switching on and...

3.0 out of 5 stars A good laptop let down by a very poor speaker. Amazon were great though.
I bought this last week having been impressed by the spec and the cost. I bought and continued to be impressed by the spec and cost. The Pentium is quick and capable of managing several apps at the same time. However, I was somewhat amazed at the fact that such a high spec laptop had a single mono speaker. The sound is absolutely terrible and no where as good as my old...

Absolute Bargain. The spec of this laptop is very impressive, i had seen laptops with half the RAM and HDD for much more. I even found an exact match in terms of motherboard and model but with 140gb less HDD and 3gb less ram for £129 more.
Laptop arrived quickly, was very easy to set up - all drivers are pre-installed so it was just a case of switching on and connecting to internet. I installed a few applications such as iTunes and all of these were very quick to download and install - id go as far as to say if i had faster internet they would have been quicker still - i base that on the apps i sinstalled from disk taking literally seconds to install.

The only slight critisism i can make is the feel of it seems plasticy and cheap(ish) - it has a carbon fibre look that is quite nice but the feel of it isnt so nice - but then again its hard to find a good quality build electrical product these days.

The screen is great - really good size (can easily watch a film on this) and great colour quality.

I have given this 5 stars as despite the feel being a bit cheap the actual high performance laptop is also CHEAP.

Once again a Bargain.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent, 26 July 2011

I've been searching for a new laptop, and wanted to go for something different.. when I saw the memory and the price of this laptop I thought it was amazing! and after reading the reviews I decided to buy one. I'm pleased to say I'm very happy. The laptop is so fast, internet loads up in seconds, doesn't overheat at all like my last laptop and it was easy to set up, the battery life is also incredible. Definitely recommend!

5.0 out of 5 stars Top machine, good price, 27 May 2011
This review is from: Acer Aspire 5742Z 15.6 inch Laptop (Intel Pentium P6200 Processor, 6 GB RAM , 640 GB HDD, DVD-Super Multi DL drive, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit) - Black (Personal Computers)
Had a 5742Z with pentium processor, 4Gb RAM and 500Gb drive for about 4 months now. Can't fault it, it is quite light, the screen is excellent, keyboard feels nice, performance is very good. Delivery from Amazon was very quick, set up was totally straightforward, though I would recommend removal of most of the OEM trial software, but that is true across all manufacturers. Wouldn't mind an extra USB port or two on the back. I don't use it on battery very often but it seems good for well over two hours, though this will deteriorate over time.
All in, an excellent vfm machine, and build quality is excellent despite what some negative reviews say (be aware some negative Acer reviews are spammed across several products and do not refer to the products they are listed under, but products several years old and should be ignored), in fact sturdier than the last few Dell laptops I have had. Acer will certainly be near the top of my list in a couple of years when it comes up for replacement

After having my previous Acer Aspire (7000 series) laptop for a good 5 years, I thought it was about time to treat myself to a new Laptop. Opening the box, you would think that the Laptop was a toy, because its soo light. But take it out of its wrapping, and whoa! What a piece of kit! Booting it up for the first time after configuring it, it truly is worth every penny! 6GB of RAM, 620GB HDD that IS NOT partitioned (well done Acer!), and a Dual Layer writing drive - what more do you need??? This machine boots within a minute and is ready to do whatever you want.

This Laptop will suit people who are wanting to do the basic tasks, eg. Word Processing, Browsing the Internet, Skype, iTunes and exceed all expectations. For users who want to use programs that are more RAM dependant (eg Adobe Photoshop) this laptop works wonders with it. I fully recommend this laptop to anyone thinking of going to University or college, or even someone who runs a business. Brilliant crystal clear screen, and HD Webcam (or so it is claimed)

All in All, a superb notebook and certainly deserves a 10/10 for value for money!
Build quality is a bit dodgy when it comes to the disc drive, but most laptops are like that now.
Keyboard is very flush and the touchpad is very responsive. I recommend considering this over any other Laptops in the £400 - £450 price range!

4.0 out of 5 stars Quick delivery, great laptop, 3 Aug 2011
This review is from: Acer Aspire 5742Z 15.6 inch Laptop (Intel Pentium P6200 Processor, 6 GB RAM , 640 GB HDD, DVD-Super Multi DL drive, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit) - Black (Personal Computers)
I ordered this laptop on 31 July. It arrived on 3 August. Very quick service from Amazon.
Within 3 minutes of removing all the packaging, the laptop was powered up and online. So far, I'm very impressed. It downloaded Google Chrome and Spotify quick-fast. A minor issue I noticed is that the cover attracts finger-prints/marks far too easily.
In conclusion if you are looking for basic laptop with good specifications (I saw the same spec in well known retail stores for £650.00), this could be the one for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars good value, 9 July 2011

Fantastic spec for the money backed by acer guaranatee and workmanship - what more could you want? Spent ages researching best deal but was bit hesitant to buy by post. Arrived well packaged and very quickly. Good weight and size, only criticism is battery only lasts 3 hours with general surfing (hence 4 *), but no one ever that far away from power point. Thoroughly recommend

I bought a 5742Z to replace an old Toshiba laptop and gained the benefits of 4Gb of RAM, a large 500GB hard disk and the new twin core Pentium 6100 processor at a very reasonable price given the specification. Nine months later, this model offers even more value for money with 50% more RAM and a 30% larger hard disk for the same price! The Acer is very stylish with a matt black textured casing and a 16:9 widescreen, ideal for viewing movies. It has a full numeric keypad as a separate section of the keyboard and the keys are flat and square and easy to type with. There is a flat touchpad with a single button for right and left clicking. The 1366x768 screen is very clear and bright, using LED backlighting and has a 1.3MP camera and a microphone built into the top edge to enable easy videoconferencing over Skype. There are 3 USB 2.0 ports, a built in SD memory card reader, a VGA output and a HDMI output for showing photos or movies on a HDTV. There is no Firewire port and only a mono speaker rather than the usual two stereo speakers. The operating system is the latest version of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit which takes around ten minutes to set-up after unpacking the laptop and wifi networking is built in, with a clear indicator showing connection. Highly recommended.

Service was good, prompt delivery. Laptop is as described, has a good spec, but I have had better keyboards.
My fault, but I did not realise that some of my programmes are not compatible with 64 bit, and I cannot
get upgrades. Generally, however, a good buy, and good all round value.

Laptop ordered thursday arrived monday and have rarely been off it since.

Love it! I bought it to play the Sims 3 and it works perfectly on it. I've downloaded a few films and music so far and its fairly fast (mainly depends on the time of day but thats moreso to do with the internet connection). So far its fast for loading programs and loading websites.

Very easy to set up.

One slight issue is the volume isn't too good.
