Thought it was going to be about british myths & legends, but it was about US legends. Whether they are old enough to be classed as myths or legends is debatable, but they are obviously stories passed down by word of mouth, often with a moral in them, that have been collected and recorded by the author.
Some may dislike the fact that the book was compiled in the late 19th/early 20th century, and the writing style of that time, but delving below that I came across some beautiful, wry, turns of phrase that had me laughing aloud on occasion (I probably missed some them due to to lack of knowledge of the context).
The stories themselves are probably hit and miss for a Brit, but there are several historical references, especially regarding the US struggle for independence, and the civil war, which piqued my interest.
Overall a good, not great, buy
