Had the good fortune to see Matthew support Portico Quartet at the Sage in Newcastle. He had Luke Flowers on drums, so I thought I'd check out his records as the set was too short to get a full idea of his talent. Well, I'm blooming glad I did because this is a totally brilliant CD. I then bought his other CD's and they're all as good. Gives Miles Davis a run for his money.

One day this lad is going to be included among the greats of jazz.

Take a tip - just buy it - you will not regret it.

I have all of Matthew Halsall's albums and saw him recently in London when he started with the brilliant first track Music for a Dancing Mind. Really good music to relax to. For me this is his best album which seems to get better every time I play it. Matthew Halsall's style blends perfectly with the rest of the band and is a delight to listen to.

This is an essential record for any jazz music lover from a young writer / trumpet player accompanied by the Gondwana Orchestra.
Beautifully recorded ,this music has a hypnotic feel interwoven with standard jazz phrases hinting where the influence for each piece may of come from. Buy this now !

Very talented trumpeter. Others have likened him to Miles Davis so it's a bit daft me repeating this but...... I'm relishing opportunities to see him perform live in small venues pending him being discovered. With regard to this album I find the track 'Samatha' utterly beautiful and haunting. Thank you Mathew, I'm so pleased I took a chance and bought On The Go.
