The Reluctant Detective
on 27 April 2011
Faith Morgan is a former policewoman who has joined the Church. Her calling led her to leave the police force and also her long term boyfriend, Ben Shorter. Now she is visiting a country parish, a place she knew as a child, to decide whether to move there from the city. It is supposed to be a brief visit, just to see how she feels about it, but eagle eyed parishoners have noted her presence within moments of arrival and then the Priest collapses during the service. Faith suspects poisoning and calls the police, causing Ben to be first on the scene. As if things could not get more complicated, she is asked to stay on by the Bishop, and ends up doing a little detective work...
Faith is a very likeable character. Although she is ordained, she is neither priggish nor old fashioned and I enjoyed this cozy mystery very much. Martha Ockley has created a very enjoyable cast of characters and I hope that she will visit them again soon, as I am very much looking forward to following Faith's further adventures. This kindle book was well edited and without typos and was an excellent start to a promising series.
