4.0 out of 5 stars A surprisingly good record from this young girl from Kansas City
Young blonde Samantha looks like a contestant on X-Factor and I admit to not expecting a great deal from this record but I was pleasantly surprised - this is a good CD. Young blonde Samantha looks like a contestant on X-Factor and I admit to not expecting a great deal from this record but I was pleasantly surprised - this is a good CD. Like the young Susan Tedeschi, Samantha has a strong voice and she is also no slouch on guitar. This is very much rock blues but songs like "Leavin' kind" and "Today's my day" are firmly rooted in the blues tradition. There is also lots of variety here from the hard-rocking "Money to burn", to the late night jazz of "Feelin' alright" and the laid-back ballad "Louisiana rain".

Samantha is backed by Brit Jamie Little on drums, Cassie Taylor (Otis's daughter) on bass and producer Mike Zito adds his classy lead guitar to most tracks. This isn't just studio trickery either, take a look on Youtube and see Samantha doing it live with her own band. I look forward to seeing Samantha develop further in the future.

I bought this after buying her 2nd album first.
Both albums are stunning. Awesome Blues rhythm, her voice is stunning and has a good vocal range....and her guitar playing skills are very very good. You must buy this album....

I've only just begun to explore the Ruf records artists. This CD by Samantha Fish is worth checking out. Ms Fish and the other Ruf records blues musicians are helping to keep the blues alive and vibrant.

I'm one of those guy's who buys a lot of CD's. Some barely get a hearing for weeks and some get played to destruction from the off. This album falls into the latter category.
This is one of my top ten albums from my impressive collection.
Sam is a breath of fresh air for me. This is how i like my "blues rock". Simple riffs that stay in your head for days after. Lively guitar playing with a passion so often missing from others from the same label,(Ruf).
With Sam It's all about "tone". She uses a simple rig with just a couple of pedals, one of which i think is a tuner.
Her sound comes more from her fingers and an obvious love for what she does, and she does it so well.
I should mention her vocals. She has a great bluesy voice that captivated me from the first track. This still very young lady is the "real deal". Go take a look on YouTube, i made a playlist up for her with every video i could find with her playing on it. Well over a hundred to choose from.
I would like to see a live DVD of her performing in America.
Tracks! I forgot to mention anything about them. Well they are all winners for me. "Down In The Swamp" is one to listen too, and "The Other Side Of The Bottle" is just about my favorite. But that changes all the time.
My copy is getting played so much that soon i will have to get another!

Look up my playlist on YouTube..MITCHWILD.

This girl has more talent in her little finger than 1D and the like have in their entire bodies. Long may she continue! 10/10, five stars, top draw. This is how I like the blues. It's real, honest and has a fantastic edge to it! If I ever get over to the states for a holiday I shall time it to coincide with one of her gigs. The production could be better but I suspect they didn't have the budget to polish the album to a blinding shine. Perhaps that adds to the charm?

This is a brilliant Album, by someone who is an amazing guitar player as well as vocalist...

From beginning to end this is one pure funky master lesson in the Blues...

Samantha has the voice, the chops and the whole band have a rawness and swagger that is absent from mainstream music today...

The title track, Otherside of the Bottle and Louisiana Rain deserve special mention...

I cannot reccomend this album enough...
