Halestorm are the perfect example of a hard working rock band. Siblings Lzzy and Arejay Hale have been around the so called "rock pit" for years before Atlantic Records finally took a gamble on them in 2006.
Completing their line-up with guitarist Joe Hottinger and Josh Smith on bass, the result was their extremely enjoyable debut CD released in 2009, ahead of their first headlining tour in 2010.
"Halestorm Live in Philly" was recorded during April 2010 at the TFL in Philadelphia and showcases a band on real top form, vocalist Lzzy Hale has an exceptional voice which carries the music through superbly and Arejay is one of the liveliest drummers I've ever seen, each and every song is played out with such musical aplomb.
Halestorm's music can be described as "radio friendly hard rock," no shouting, screaming or swearing but there are quite a few sexual innuendos in the lyrics.
I'm somewhat surprised Halestorm haven't yet generated a larger following both in their native US and worldwide, their debut album was certainly one of the best in 2009 and a second album is currently being written and recorded.
In summary this live CD/DVD is excellent, if you like commercially successful rock music you need to be checking out Halestorm.

This is simply a superb package that really should be in everyone's collection. There is an amazingly atmospheric Live DVD from one of the best bands to come out of the USA in decades. Halestorm have enormous drive, energy and a startling passion to rock. Which they combine with great songs and a high standard of musical ability. This all comes with possibly the best female rock lead singer since Ann Wilson of Heart-Izzy Hale. The songs are usually short, fast but with memorable lyrics with some subtle twists with some wicked innunendoes and very catchy choruses. The DVD also includes four promo videos which are well worth viewing. The video for Familiar taste of poison is possibly the most interesting as it is a slow ballad and almost veers into Evanescence territory. The best part about this video is that this shows the range and ability of the band as Izzy handles the ballad with ease and it is a very classy little film. In short this band should be huge and this DVD documents the band after the release of only their self titled debut album. I expect in five years time Halestorm may well be a household name with stadium filling sell out tours. It is very rare to see a talented rock band literally exploding on to the world stage but the DVD captures that moment beautifully. Entertaining, fun and with enormous potential Halestorm are a band to watch. If you love to rock and want something new, unique and different try this I don't think you will be disappointed.

I have been to see Halestorm twice and so I know how good they are as a live band. Whilst this is a few years old now and so doesn't represent how they currently perform, it is still a great addition to any Rock CD collection and is a great album to buy to add some personality to their music. Also Arejay's drum solo is incredible and worth buying the CD for.

I loved Halestorms studio albums and I love this one too. Only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is there is a bit too much talking to the crowd and when you put the tracks on shuffle you get a few of them that are nearly all cheering and talking. The actual music is great, especially the vocals.

Halestorm are trying to carve their only niche in the crowded metal world.

The musicianship is OK without being great, and of course the band are dragged along by the excellent voals of Lzzy Hale.

But I'm afraid to say that for the most part, their songwriting isn't so great.
