5.0 out of 5 stars Great 3D Effects
Well after watching quite a few blu ray 3D's this one is by far the best for 3D effects its brilliant right from the start. I would highly recommend you buy it for the 3D Effects alone. The story is also good the title doesnt do the film justice and would probably put people off but well worth watching.

3.0 out of 5 stars Definitely Angry, and entertaining but brainless
Fuelled from the start with attitude, adrenaline and swearing this action movie delivers energy, thrills and stuff to look at, but it is shallow. The beautiful Amber Heard stars alongside the ageing Nicolas Cage, and this is the film's best element. William Fictchner (Prison Break) also stars, alongside other foolish comic like characters and muscle cars.

The pursuit for ballsy all out action is at the forefront throughout and is drone worthy if you are not in the brainless mood. Drive Angry is silly but entertaining, almost amusing in it's content box-ticking (sex, cars and guns). The film for me reinforces my loathing for Cage - a terrible hard man and easy to criticise again in this black coffee drinking aloof role.

If you want all out action, with a pretty girl, a car, Cage and comic styled action then this will be a hit with you. If you think a slo-mo sex and fight scene with comical kills sounds amusing, then this is one drive you should take.

I bought this as I was looking for some decent 3D blu rays to show on my new 3D tv. Other reviews said the 3D effects were good so I went for it and as Nicolas Cage is usually in some decent films I thought it was worth the risk, despite the naff title.

Well, the 3D was very good with lots of "pop out" action. However, the storyline itself was very confused and almost back to front with you having to wait til the end of the film to make much sense of it. It was also a case of the viewer having to suspend belief on a massive scale! For example, there is a lot of violence with much being made of the thudding impact of the punch ups to the actors faces - including male on female violence. Then when you see the effects - they dont have a scratch on them! It is quite laughable in places and I had to stop myself from laughing out loud - well, thinking about it I did actually laugh out loud! Also, there is a scene where shots are being fired at close range with a huge shotgun - and they all miss!

The storyline attempts some pathos but I found it very false and contrived so it didnt have any impact on me. I actually found myself feeling sorry for Nicolas Cage having to act out such a ridiculous plot! I got the feeling that he must have needed the cash when he made this one.

Wont be watching it again. If you want a really good 3D Blu ray to show off the 3D effects of your TV get Ocean World. Other than that, leave this one alone.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Clever, Violent, Fun, Supernatural Action Film!, 30 Oct 2011
This review is from: Drive Angry [DVD] (DVD)
Drive Angry is a fast, frantic and fun movie that I'd highly reccomend. I'm only not giving it 5 stars as I think the final half of the film doesn't quite live up to the incredible first half. This is a very violent film but is tongue in cheek like alot of my favourite films from the 80's. Nic Cage(on form) and Amber heard(gorgeous) are good leads and William Fichtner has fun in a great role. Amongst all the action and violence the film has a good internal logic and is a cleverly put together film. It's a well cast film with a good story/script and well edited. Well worth watching and most likely re-watching.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rage in a Cage, 9 Nov 2011

This review is from: Drive Angry Double Play (Blu-Ray and DVD) (Blu-ray)
Having seen My bloody valentine 3D back in 2010, i decided to have a look at Lussier's new action filled thriller called Drive Angry.

Ive never been a big fan of Nic Cage cause his acting is sometimes over-reactful and his quotes are annoying (for example OH GOD NOT THE BEES! AARGH!!!! from Wicker Man (2006) ) Drive Angry is about an undead criminal Milton (Nicholas Cage) who escapes from hell to save her granddaughter from an evil cult leader Jonah King (Billy Burke, Charlie Swan from Twilight-series). Milton's daughter joined the cult after high-school and he didn't know about this untill Milton got locked up.

Milton meets a super-hot waitress Piper (Amber Heard, Mandy from All the boys love mandy lane). She gets involved to mess and she gets quiet temper with Milton in situations. During the course of Drive Angry there's a great set of violence, humour, suspense, sex and drugs (including a scene where Milton has sex, drinks and shoots thugs during the way)

Some of the CGI is over-rated, but that's what makes Drive Angry more badass!

Result 5/5= You should get it, it's worth it. Great for saturday nights if you just want to drink pint and enjoy a good flick!

2.0 out of 5 stars Awful., 3 Sep 2012
This review is from: Drive Angry [DVD] (DVD)
You know you're basically gambling weather a film will be good or not if you're going for one with Nicholas Cage as the main role.
The film doesn't really seem to go anywhere, I found myself bored and wanting to turn it off just half way through.
If you're interested in movies with action and fast cars and think this will be good, think again.
Nicholas Cage does a pretty awful job, there's too much tongue in cheek humour from him, to the point you're just sat there face palming.
Some of it was so bad, that I found myself chuckling at it, instead of with it.
It tries too hard to come off as a 'badass' movie, that it just fails on many proportions.
The plot is dull and forgettable, it's not a movie you'll remember for a long time - But I'm thankful for that.
Amber heard does a good job, but I feel as though her talent is going to waste in this, I'll give it two stars mainly for her role.
Not Recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Attitude, 20 Mar 2012
This review is from: Drive Angry [DVD] (DVD)
This film has plenty of it!

Brilliant for a Saturday night in. There is plenty of action and it keeps you entertained throughout. I can see mixed reviews for this film and I can understand why. There is not a whole lot of depth to the film. It is simple really. Nicolas Cage escapes from hell wanting revenge for his daughters tragic death. That is about it! There are plenty more films with even less story than that.

If you are looking for a relatively easy film to watch. That is not that thought intensive but not thought destroying at the same time. This is a good one! In my opinion it is not the best film you will ever watch, though the thrill factor is certainly there.

It has a brilliant soundtrack as well. Including: UNKLE and Peaches. I enjoyed it.

This is one of the best movies out there at the moment for its 3D effects.
Lots of good visual effects.
Its all go from the start with Cage escaping from Hell to take revenge on his daughters killer and save his grandchild from a cult.
He teams up with a hottie on this fast action adventure while being chased by the Accountant from Hell and the police.
This is 1 to watch in 3D

For the life of me, I can't see why some reviewers are so determined to rubbish this movie. Personally, I thought it was a load of fun from start to finish, and definitely the cinematic equivalent of a modern graphic novel (I mean in its action and plot logic).

Cage was excellent, as always, and Amber Heard certainly should be moving on to bigger and better things.

I rented this, enjoyed it, and will be buying a copy to enjoy again, even if I don't share the fact with many of my highbrow friends!!!
