5.0 out of 5 stars Bargain!
Was in 2 minds whether to get this or not as the warranty information was not mentioned on here in great detail, just that it's in the box. Plus it would have been my first experience with a Samsung TV also. However I thought the price was too good a value to miss out on, (when compared to other online/local retailers, this was at least £150 cheaper!) so finally bought...

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor Move By Samsung
The tv was faulty it turned itself off every 3 minutes. Besides this i wasn't impressed by the downgrade made from the c580 to the d580. The d580 had a mstar processor which isn't as good as the valencia which is in the c580's.This causes the menus to appear slower and move slower than on the c580. It also means the tv's picture quality has been downgraded. It isn't poor...

5.0 out of 5 stars Bargain!,
This review is from: Samsung LE40D580 40-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p LCD TV with Freeview HD (Electronics)Was in 2 minds whether to get this or not as the warranty information was not mentioned on here in great detail, just that it's in the box. Plus it would have been my first experience with a Samsung TV also. However I thought the price was too good a value to miss out on, (when compared to other online/local retailers, this was at least £150 cheaper!) so finally bought it!
The warranty lasts for 12 months (leaflet provided in the box). Amazon delivery was great as usual, ordered on a Monday evening & arrived the Thursday afternoon using the Super free standard delivery option. You can also keep a track of where the delivery is using the online tracker.
Now, after about 4 days of use, I have to say the image quality is pretty good, excellent when watching in HD on some of the channels - amazingly crisp, sharp detail when using the PS3 also! I LOVE that I can plug in a USB device (my phone, external drive, memeory stick etc) & watch videos, listen to music & view pictures I have on there instead of using a CD all the time! I really like the design of the TV too, it has a nice glass frame on the outside all the way round so does look quite elegant & smooth.
The only issues I'm having at the moment is the controller response speed can be a bit slow & laggy when switching channels & you really do have to point the controller in a specific direction. The sound could be better also in terms of quality - but the volume it can go up to is very high so I guess that makes up for the quality when you have it turned up in the higher range. You can though change the sound to suit your viewing experience, for example if you want to hear better voice clarity, then you have the option to choose the 'voice' setting as the main sound, or if you want to listen to music with better bass, you can change it to the 'music' setting etc. There are more to choose from such as 'movie' & 'amplify', but most of the time you'd only need to use the 'standard' setting it's already on unless you do want a better sound experience.
Overall, I am not disappointed & for the price that Amazon are offering on a Samsung 40" full HD TV, it is a great deal!
*Oh and by the way, if you are going to copy & paste parts of my review & make it as your own, at least make it less obvious. You know who you are* =)

5.0 out of 5 stars Samsung 40 Inch Freeview HD,
This review is from: Samsung LE40D580 40-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p LCD TV with Freeview HD (Electronics)Great TV for the money. We nearly bought its predecesor a few months ago and now this replacement model is around £100 cheaper. This is our first big flat screen TV and are very impressed with everything from sound to picture quality and design. We do not play PS/Wii games etc on it, but the picture is great as far as I can tell - and the BBC HD coverage of Wimbledon is fantastic.
If you are looking for a great value, easy to set up TV with integreated HD then this is ideal, don't waste your money on anything else

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Buy,
This review is from: Samsung LE37D580 37-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p LCD TV with Freeview HD (Electronics)There were just two reviews on Amazon when we purchased this TV. One was very critical and the other a bit negative and so it was a poor start. On the other hand we regard Samsung as being a quality brand and we have experienced Amazon's famous "no argument" approach to customer complaints.
There was nothing to worry about. We are very pleased with all aspects of this model and have no hesitation in recommending it to others. The HD quality is really superb.
We do have just one critical comment. We were surprised by the degree of physical force that was required to fit the stand and were fearful that we might have caused some damage in the process.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome TV,
This review is from: Samsung LE40D580 40-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p LCD TV with Freeview HD (Electronics)Really happy with this TV. Picture quality is awesome, crystal clear images and vibrant colour. Ive only had the chance to test on 720p HD content so far from Apple TV/iTunes and BBC iPlayer but Im well happy. So impressed Im thinking about buying a blu-ray player now. I cant pick up any Freeview HD channels yet (so cant comment on that) but hopefully that will change after the switchover next month. Great for the price and if youre not bothered about 3D and Internet TV gimmickry, you'll love this TV. Truly amazing value for money. Worth the extra quids for the full HD experience. Sound not great so would be worthwhile getting a decent set of speakers to.

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant telly and price,
Superb TV for the price. I'm not a tech-geek but I know a good TV when I see one!
Picture and sound quality are excellent - great to have HD channels too.
It took me and a helpful 12-year old just 20 minutes to unpack, set up and start watching. Lots of potential for connecting other media too when I get round to it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Its not wireless without separate adaptor,
This review is from: Samsung LE37D580 37-inch Widescreen Full HD 1080p LCD TV with Freeview HD (Electronics)A quick fresh-out-of-the-box review:
Great next-day delivery and i was able to get everything setup and working in a matter of minutes. Picture looks great and sound is good.
My only gripe so far is that this television is advertised as being wireless (I was expecting an internal antenna like the Wii). No such luck. When you go to the network configuration options you are informed that you need to have a wireless adaptor Samsung WIS09ABGN WiFi Link Stick. a bit disappointing to say the least.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great TV,
It's a bargain at £389.99 for a 40 inch TV. I've always been partial to Sony Bravia through having used them in the past.
But this Samsung is no different, great quality, easy to control and a fraction of the price. There aren't buttons (not even an on/off one) on the actual TV though as everything is managed via the remote control.
I paid for next day delivery as I had to be during a certain time for delivery and got Citylink delivered it by 10am. Great service so am really pleased.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stunning 40 INCH TV, just some little niggles,
First with the positives. Watching freeview through this tv is absolutely amazing. Bright vivid colours, sharp detail and images, and fine detail especially upclose, you can actually see stubble, and skin bleamishes on the characters!
I really am amazed at the quality of the images. Even using my hdd recorder to record off the tv, the images are clear (although there is a very small change in quality from watching tv live and watching recorded programs, but you won't notice this generally unless you are really looking for). The tv can handle all the standard forms of HDMI levels (560p, 720p, 1080i and 1080p - these are the ones I have tested through my hdd media player so far), with it being 40 inches, you do generally notice the difference between 520p and 1080p. From personal experience I have noticed that 1080i(interlaced) looks better than 1080p(progressive) (which is strange as 1080p is meant to be better than 1080i, its something to do with the way the horizontal lines which make up the image on screen are displayed - 1080 p is progressive and displays all horizontal lines at the same time, where as 1080i displays alternate lines for 1/60th of a second, with the rest of the lines displaying for 1/30th of a second, with your brain making up the difference). It was almost as if there was too much detail being put into the images on screen, therefore distorting the edges of people on screen. Like I said, this is from personal experience , and viewing recorded items on the tv, other people may have a different experience.
On to connections, There are 4 hdmi ports (although hdmi 1 is specifically for connecting your computer to the tv - dvi hmi port, two usb ports, (which are absolutely amazing - will explain further on), 1 scart port, one vga port, one digital optical port, lan port and rgb ports. There are a lot more connections on this tv to suit both users of old devices as well those willing to update to newer devices, compared to other more expensive brands, which have fewer connections (especially hdmi ports!)
Ive tried all hdmi ports and they work perfectly; dont use hdmi 1 for hdd recording, or else, the screen will go black and pixelate as the device records, use hdmi only for connecting your laptop to the tv. Also make sure that the hdmi cables you use are either well shielded or are not touching each other, as this will effect the image on screen when you are watching freeview tv. Also ensure that the hdmi cables are of good quality as this will also effect the images.
THE USB PORTS.... JUST WOW! you can plug any .... and i mean any USB FLASH DRIVE, or ANY EXTERNAL HARD DISK DRIVE in to the tv and it will automatically detect the usb device. The following menu will ask whether it is photos, videos or music it is that you want to view, select the appropriate and select the right folder with the video and play it! ITS REALLY AS SIMPLE AS THAT! The tv will display photos based upon the size of the picture to begin with, i.e greater picture size, the bigger it will be displayed on tv, although you have the option to zoom into the picture if it is too small on tv. I have tried picture which have been taken with a 8.2 megapixel camera, and the images are blown to full size of the tv, automatically.
In terms of music I have only tried mp3 format so far.
In terms of video, I have tried mpeg 1 and mpeg 2, avi, and they work fine. THE TV ALSO PLAYS MKV FILES! which is absolutely amazing! those of you that know a bit about video formats, will know that mkv offers excellent quality videos (blu ray quality) for a very small file size i.e it is compressed video file. This is why I was so impressed with the tv! Never even imagined it could play mkv files, this saves me so much hassle, of converting the mkv to avi and then converting that to a DVD to play in my dvd player! i can just put an mkv file directly into the tv and watch it directly !
The scart connection is good, provided that you have a good quality scart cable, although the image is significantly lower quality, compared to hdmi, which is obvious and to be expected. Iv not tried the other ports yet, and may in the future connect my ps3 to it, and have it connected to the internet.
Now on to the few negatives:
The sound from this tv is ok, and its better compared to some other tvs i have experienced in the past. There are several sound types you can keep it on (which include, voice, music and movie). I think the best option to keep it on is "music" as there is good bass, the voices sound natural and the music sounds clear. "Movie" is ok too, but i prefer "music".In my opinion, the other sound types sound too "tinny", where as "music"/"movie" sounds more natural and louder. You could keep it on "standard" and vary the various options available within, but i found this was too much effort.
Firslty, the image is excellent as stated above, the only flaw is that it suffers from motion blur. Surprisingly, its fine during football, or rugby matches, but if there is a lot of people on screen, or alot of movement from several different things on tv (during fast moving images on x factor, red or black, or BGT), then this is when you'll notice it the most. It does settle quickly, once the images on screen have stopped moving so fast. If there was anything major to improve on this excellent tv, then would be it!
You'll have to mess around with the display effects available from the tv, to reduce power consumption and to have best image on screen to compliment the surroundings. "Standard" is ok during the day, but is too dark during the night. I have mine on "Dynamic" which i find is the best, and then I have set the Ecosolution, so that the tv dims accordingly to the surrounding lighting and the images on screen. You can set the level it dims to so that it does not become too dull. This is something the user will have to adjust themselves.
Also, the TV can only be turned on, or turned off to stand-by, there is no full power off function available. This is a small issue, as I have read that stand by only uses 0.2 watts which is hardly nothing.
A great tv, for a very reasonable price, great image quality and the usb ports can take almost anything, great number of connections too including hdmi. Only slight flaw is the sound (but which can be improved using the settings available or by adding external speakers) and the motion blur, ( would have to get a tv with a greater refresh rate, above 50 hz, which at the moment is only available mostly on plasmas and LED tvs) hence the four stars.
Hope this review has been helpful. Leave comments if you feel like.
