My search for a value for money argan oil is over. Same benefits as more expensive brands of argan oil (not Moroccanoil!)
on 18 April 2013
I have purchased more expensive brands of argan oil in the past, and felt attracted to - but dubious of this cheaper argan oil.
With this in mind I bought this small 50ml bottle to try first, and I'm just about to purchase the 250ml bottle from the same seller because I've been very pleased with the product and results.
Reading the negative the reviews of this oil (on all the sizes of bottles) I have two comments:
1) Argan oil is not the same product as Moroccanoil, sold at salons, designed for your hair. Some people complain when buying argan oil (from any seller) that the oil is not as good, and it leaves hair greasy, and is not genuine Moroccanoil. Potential buyers who are looking for a cheaper alternative to the pricy salon product need to understand that Moroccanoil is not argan oil. Yes it contains argan oil, but it also contains linseed oil, frangrances, colours, silicones, and other chemicals. Basic argan oil cannot be compared. I've used both and can report from my experience that you need to use far less of this product unless you want your hair to be greasy. I'd recommend it as a prewash treatment on damp hair and scalp, before shampooing out. It also makes a superb body moisturiser - whereas salon oils can irritate delicate skin for the reasons outlined above.
2) This argan oil is deodorised, and isn't as "pure" as some brands, but you may prefer it because of this fact. I've bought 100% pure, unrefined, virgin undeodorised argan oil in the past and the smell was strong and off-putting for me. Having used this oil I can say I far prefer it because I get all the same benefits, without any lingering odour.
It might not be the very best brand, and who knows if it's 100% genuine (the seller has a website and successful business, which is encouraging) but for the price, you can't beat it. It does the job. Ignorance is bliss! I use it as a moisteriser on my face (I have adult acne), as a hair and scalp treatment, a body moisteriser, a cuticle oil for my hands and nails, and also as a shaving oil. Also, if you add a few drops to your bath you'll have lovely soft skin afterwards.
Once I've given the 250ml bottle a bash I'll be able to report if I have been able to ditch 80% of my potions and lotions - I hope so!
