3.0 out of 5 stars In Car FM Transmitter for Galaxy S II, 26 Jan. 2012
This review is from: Unique Gomadic FM Transmitter with an integrated DC Auto Charger designed for the Samsung Galaxy S II (Electronics)
If you are after something to play music from your Galaxy S II in your car, using the car speakers (not sure if it works on other phones),there are a few options, but if you're short of cash and your cars stereo doesn't support bluetooth, an FM transmitter is a good option.

The device itself should fit into any car power outlet/ cigarette lighter, but beware, the chunky display that juts out from the connector might be a tight fit in some cars, especially if your power outlet is tucked away somewhere, so bear that in mind.

With it, you get the power lead, a lead that attaches to the bottom of your phone that acts as a phone charger, which is useful, and a lead that connects to the headphone jack in the top to play your music. The display has three buttons. Two up and down frequency buttons to set your signal, and a power button.

The device basically works by creating a radio signal that you then tune your cars radio into. You pick the frequency using the up and down buttons on the unit. Bear in mind, you should set it to a frequency that is not near to, or used by another large radio station, so it might take a bit of trail and error to get a good signal. If you don't do this, you will get horrible quality.

I found a frequency with nothing but a weak signal and the sound is crystal clear most of the time, basically the same as listening to it from the CD. I did notice occasionally, the sound may dip briefly, presumably as other signals compete for the frequency you are using as you drive along. This is somewhat of an annoyance.

You're best experimenting and finding a frequency that works best for you in the areas you drive in. Sometimes I also noticed a slight buzzing or light white noise sound. It's not loud and hardly noticeable and actually, non existant if you manage to find a completely unused frequency, but still worth mentioning.

It'd also be nice if, on a product of this price, there were track select buttons. It can be difficult trying to change songs on your phone while driving, but if you just want to stick your playlist on random or listen to albums from start to finish, then it's fine.

The device worked with all the music players I tested. Once the frequency is set and your radio tuned to it, it'll play when it plays on the phone.

Overall, not sure if I could strongly recommend it, but aside from a few niggles, it gets the job done.

1.0 out of 5 stars Rubbish, 16 Aug. 2013

I found it impossible to get a clear signal so what came over the radio was full of static, plus the bandwidth display didn't work properly so it was impossible to read, making tuning to the radio even more difficult.
I tried to return this item through the Amazon returns system twice and never got more than an automatic confirmation email saying "This is a quick note that we received your email and we want to thank you for your patience while we review your email. Our support staff strive to reply to all emails within one business day or sooner. Note that our support staff's hours of operation are Monday through Friday but closed on all US holidays.", I never received any follow up.
Don't buy this item, it doesn't do what it's supposed to and you will never see your money again.
