5.0 out of 5 stars This is the same as "The Apostles: The Origin of the Church and Their Co-Workers"
Both "The Apostles: The Origin of the Church and Their Co-Workers" and "Jesus, The Apostles and the Early Church" contain the same text, namely Benedict XVI's teaching at his General Audiences from March 2006 to February 2007 on the Apostles and the Early Church. Do not follow Amazon's recommendation to buy both as they have the same text in spite of different titles.

Another great book from Pope benedict XV1. Anything written by Pope Emeritus Benedict is well and truly worth reading because he has this great gift of making difficult topics understandable by the layperson, without being patronising

5.0 out of 5 stars Shedding light, 11 April 2014

This short book brings the figures of the apostles to life, looking at the human dimension as well as their crucial role in the early Christian movement. The exposition is clear and can be read by anyone, including young people. It would be an excellent teaching tool for teachers of religion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jesus the apostles & the early church, 7 April 2012
This review is from: Jesus, the Apostles and the Early Church (Kindle Edition)
Very interesting and educational. It is great to read what the pope says about Jesus the apostles and the early church, as it can get confusing to the man on the street. Well worth buying

The book is written with an enormous knowledge of the subject and yet simple enough for an average person to follow. Very interesting as the Pope shares his vast knowledge with the reader in an absorbing way. I recommend it to anybody who is interested to deepen their faith.

4.0 out of 5 stars Like the talks themselves that Emeritus Pope Benedict gave, 21 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Used this for a Lenten read and so each day found something new to mediate upon. Like the talks themselves that Emeritus Pope Benedict gave, this needs to be read slow;y over a period of time otherwise it will be indigestible. But if you chew it slowly it brings rewards.

2.0 out of 5 stars Crawling To Extinction, 17 Jan. 2013
This review is from: Jesus, the Apostles and the Early Church (Kindle Edition)
This book is so poor that I couldn't even follow the argument. I am not sure there is one. But then what do you expect from the Catholic Church, an institution that continues adhere to theology that is so bankrupt that it went out in the Middle Ages.

Joey (Ratzinger) states (if he actually wrote the words), "An apostle is one who is sent, but even before that he is an 'expert' on Jesus."

So we assume that all those priests who lie and steal are "experts" on Jesus. Maybe they should stop behaving like hypocrites first, before preaching to their congregations!

Paul Marcinkus, the former head of the Vatican Bank stated, "The Church does not run on Hail Marys." In other words, it needs money. Hence it has to keep producing books like this to squeeze a little more juice out of its flock. "They tie up heavy loads and put them on men's shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them." (Matt. 23:4)

(The title comes from Metal Church's song "Crawling To Extinction".)
