I recently ordered a Manfrotto monopod and was about to order a Giottos ball head for it when I saw the SIRUI unit in various ball size choices. I went with my gut instinct that the SIRUI unit looked like it may have the quality I sought so I committed. It arrived (from Poland) promptly and I have to say that my instinct had not let me down. The quality is fantastic and build quality/machining is superb, a credit to the manufacturer. I ca n highly recommend this supplier and product unreservedely. The Q/R plate has six thin rubberised pads which will give good protection to the camera base. The platr release mechanism works a treat and the ball friction adjustment is precise, accurate and perfectly weighted, as is the angular base ring. Great product. 5 stars well deserved.

Being new to photography this is my first ball head so I don't have anything to rate it against. I can say that it feels to be well made, smooth in panning operation. Pretty simple to work out how to operate it. I keep the quick release plate attached to my camera permanently as to aid in quicker setting up. The safety pin for the quick release is a great idea and helps to avoid accidents. Personally I'd like the adjustment knobs to jut out a little further so they are easier to operate when your camera is attached however, this is only my preference and it would make it a little more bulky. I use this the Sirui T-2005X Travellers Tripod and find them to be a nice combination (I have also reviewed that product). I use this set up with a Nikon D7100 18-105mm at present but feel confident the tripod and ballhead would easily handle larger lenses with ease. Photography is an expensive hobby and for me the price in relation to quality of this item and the tripod are very good. I won't always need to use a tripod but I think if I had spent more and then discovered these products I'd have felt ripped off. In reality I'd only knock half a star off because of the length of the adjustment knobs but Amazon doesn't seem to allow half stars.
