I miss dear Heath, may he rest in peace
on 25 July 2015
A real yawn after the good one with Heath Ledger. Numbingly sentimental. A real string-section fest. What a waste of Tom Hardy. And it does that really annoying thing to simulate things actually being interesting – conversations between characters are reeeeeeeeally quiet so you can't hear them at all, so of course you turn up the volume ... and then KERBLAM!!, the orchestra cuts in, massively, hugely, twenty times as loud, or the baddy says something bad massively, hugely loud and things explode ten times louder than that even and all the cats and dogs in the county wake up with a start and begin howling while you're scrabbling for the volume control. I know it's naive of me to think that any of the muted conversations are going to add any substance to the "plot", but it's nice to hear what people are talking about if you've paid to hear it isn't it? I think it takes a special lack of talent in the writing dept to make Tom Hardy so boring.
