I bought the three books in this family saga in paperback in 1996 or thereabouts, on a whim, as I have always enjoyed family sagas, and books set in France. I started reading them and was immediately drawn into the story and read all three books in succession and was captivated from the very beginning. The story across all three books has stayed in the recesses of my brain all this time, so much so that I recently dug them out from bookcase and started re-reading them to see if they stood the test of time.

For those with a love of the Dordogne and Brive regions of France, this series will delight. I couldn't put them down and devoured one after the other as I shut the world out and became totally absorbed in this magical story of a French country family through the years. Descriptive, engrossing, happy and sad its one of those family sagas that you don't want to ever end and leaves you feeling totally bereft when you reach the last page and realise that you want to read more. Highly recommended to anyone who has a love of France and its rural history.
