This review is from: New Zealand - the North Island - bitten by the travel bug - a different kind of travel film (DVD)
I bought this DVD, along with it's partner about the South Island, as I am planning a trip to New Zealand at the end of the year. It gave me exactly what I was looking for - an opportunity to decide what I really wanted to see, and what I would prefer to avoid. A trip to New Zealand is probably something I will only get to do once in my lifetime, so I want to make the most of it. I'm not a thrill seeker, and not keen on heights, so I now feel that I can safely rule out a trip up a glacier - I feel as if I've experienced it already! There are ideas for day trips; from a walk or kayaking,to boat trips or rolling down a hill in a sphere, and the aforementioned trip up a glacier. There are also useful hints about tourist traps and the fact that restaurants close earlier than we are used to in Europe. The film follows a sensible route round the North Island thus helping with planning how long you need to allow to visit a particular area. We watched both the DVDs back to back and will no doubt watch them once or twice more before we go. The camera work and commentary (in English) are excellent. I would recommend this DVD to anyone planning a trip to New Zealand, or to anyone who just dreams of going.

Part travelogue, part travel brochure, part eye candy, part inspiration, 12 Aug 2011
This review is from: New Zealand - the North Island - bitten by the travel bug - a different kind of travel film (DVD)
We bought both DVDs in this series on return from our holiday in New Zealand in early 2011. The film-makers' route coincided with ours in places and it was delightful to have our memories jogged. At the same time every NZ itinerary is different, and the route travelled serves as a reminder that we only scratched the surface. They found some very interesting places that we wouldn't have. Of course, these films only scratch the surface too, but in a different way; now that we live in NZ it is a source of inspiration for places we haven't yet visited!
