This review is from: Prokofiev: Piano Sonatas 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (Audio CD)
This disc not only launches the career of a truly wonderful artist of exceptional poetic insight and virtuosic accomplishment, but presents a revelatory experience of Prokofiev's first 5 sonatas that enchants, delights and makes for irresistible, riveting listening. She reveals a magic about these works which should surely establish them in the affection of listeners comparable to that which the "War Sonatas" (6 - 8) enjoy. I can't wait to hear her in Volume 2, with what promises to be a very special rendition of the late 9th Sonata (Richter's own) also. Congratulations! May we hear much more of this adventurous artist with so much to say.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark & powerfull interpretation, 7 Nov 2012
This review is from: Prokofiev: Piano Sonatas 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (Audio CD)
It's a long time Prokofiev's Sonatas have been so beautifully played: inspired, witty, epic, sarcastic, virtuosic, uncompromising, sharp, singing, evocative.
The sound is opulent and deep, the tone unforceful. Mentioning the latter, it is worth listening to Prokofiev's recordings playing his own piano music - God knows what a fantastic pianist he was - to understand how he thought and wanted his music to be performed. It seems that the young and talented Romanian pianist Alexandra Silocea took the time to get soaked in the spirit of Prokofiev's music and its delivery is truthfully spectacular. This recording is loaded with inner power.

5.0 out of 5 stars A rising Star!!!, 15 Feb 2014
This review is from: Prokofiev: Piano Sonatas 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 (Audio CD)
I was interested to hear this young Romanian pianist after reading the two positive reviews of this CD of Prokofiev's first five Piano Sonatas. I know his Piano Concertos well, with recordings by Boris Berman and Michel Beroff, but not his Sonatas. So Alexandra Silocea's recordings of Prokofiev's Piano Sonatas 1-5 was a ideal place to start for me. Her playing shows excellent control throughout these Sonatas and she also gets a nice warm sound from the Steinway she performs on for this recording. I really like the detail she brings out, particularly in Sonatas 1,3 and 5 with a variety of styles from enchanting to sardonic. I very much hope that she continues to record Prokofiev's Piano Sonatas as she has a real grasp of his music and is a classical star in the making.
