2.0 out of 5 stars Historical mystery romance
An easily read tail of romance and intrigue which begins with an encounter in a stage coach. It is all rather tongue in cheek, and there are some funny parts, but it won't send me rushing to read any more in the series.

I have bought all the Travelling matchmaker collection;I am in the last book of the collection and I must point out that every book is more enjoyable and funny than the other. I don't recommend these kind of books for people that are not keen of the era or of regency romances.

5.0 out of 5 stars A delicious escapism, 10 July 2014

I wasn't sure what to expect having read other series by this author which I thoroughly enjoyed, but was soon captivated by this story and enjoyed the pure tongue in cheek escapism of it. It is written with charm, humour and whit and the characters come to life and enchant and infuriate equally. It was an excellent stress buster at the end of each day and I'm only sorry that it has come to an end. Enjoy!

Read it on a weekend away. Plenty of interesting twists, but I could predict the outcome which was very satisfying.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable read, 7 May 2015

I really enjoy all of MC Beaton's books. Having gone through all the Hamish Macbeth (on Audible as well!) and Agatha Raisin I decided to start on her Regency and Edwardian novels. Yes, there are a few typos but nothing to detract from the storyline. I like a bit of escapism and these books fit the bill.

I thoroughly enjoy M C Beaton's books. The outcome is fairly predictable from an early stage in the book but how it is achieved gives insight into life in those days and there are lots of unexpected twists and turns along the way. A good book to relax with.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not enough plot, 28 April 2014
This review is from: Beatrice Goes to Brighton (Kindle Edition)
It was recommended as being like Jane Austin. Not a patch on this!!!

It's OK, but very light reading, predictable and poor ending. I won't be reading this author again,

A sort of take on Jane Austen - amusing, well written and interesting observations on that particular period in time. I'll try the others in series on the basis of this one.
