I heard the Andrews Sisters through their collaborations with 'friends' as featured here, including danny kaye and bing crosby. As the Andrews sisters numbers were always my favourites, i thought i'd try an album of their own. All the favourites are here as well as a few i hadn't heard and all catchy, witty and sung in tight harmonies. A joy.

The Andrews sisters often recorded with Bing Crosby, but most of their biggest hits including both their #1 hits (Don't fence me in, A hot time In the town of Berlin) are missing.

The songs without Bing are in any case the main reason to buy this collection, although here again, the compiler has sometimes avoided the obvious, claiming that Civilization (with Danny Kaye) has not stood the test of time as well as some other tracks included instead.

This is a great collection, and I was particularly pleased to see the two Red Foley duets here, but the compiler might have done better by just saying that he or she was attempting to highlight some less frequently heard tracks, rather than trying to justify omissions.

This 26 track compilation concentrates on the Andrews Sisters with their vocal partners such as Danny Kaye; Bing Crosby; Dick Haymes; Carmen Miranda etc. This is nostalgia at its best. The Andrews Sisters are probably the most important American girl group of the mid twentieth century. The sound transfers are very very good quality and as with all the excellent Bygone Days CD releases come with detailed liner notes. The running time is approx 74 minutes.
