As we cruise into the second half of the fifties in this series rock'n'roll is really kicking in, though big ballads and old-fashioned razamatazz is still there in this intriguing and representative cross section of what the British public were being subjected to via the airwaves. Rock With the Caveman, an early and unconvincing British attempt to rock, was written by Lionel Bart. Ronnie Hilton's No Other Love is the old guard, still in good voice. Hilton became a fixture on Radio 2, as did Jimmy Young (not on this compilation).

Interesting footnote: Anne Shelton's corny but cheerful Lay Down Your Arms was engineered by ... Joe Meek, producer extraordinaire: the future was just around the corner. And note this volume ends with Heartbreak Hotel, which was to change the lives of the young Lennon and McCartney.

I have bought the whole set of these, they come as single CD's, one for each year, and they are just great if you want the original recording. They all sound as if they have been digitally remastered, I would highly recommend every CD of this set if you are into 50's music. Couldn't find the 1959 one though

I looked through all of the 50s music and chose this compilation, it had for me the best tunes on it.
The quality is second to none.
These songs are all lovely good old tunes from yesteryear, I can recommend this cd to everyone who likes 50s music, even some that don't there is something for everyone.
