5.0 out of 5 stars Really enjoyable
I thoroughly enjoyed this series when it aired on BBC. I do tend to get Andrew Marr mixed up with Evan Davis (Dragon's Den) but I guess that is more my problem the his! Certainly Andrew Marr's energy and enthusiasm turned what was potentially a fairly dry series into one which was fascinating to watch as well as being very colourful and entertaining - although in the case...

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting Documentary on World's Largest Cities..But Should Have Included MORE of Them
I actually give this documentary 3.5 stars.,,but the reasons i deduct at least 1 1/2 stars is that I think this documentary should have included more cities such as Sao Paulo , Paris, Sydney , Bangkok,, New York, Moscow, Berlin, Mumbai (Bombay) ,etc. This documentary only covers about 5 "mega cities"...:Shanghai, Tokyo, Mexico City, Dhaka (Bangladesh), and London. There...

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 21 April 2012
This review is from: Andrew Marr's Megacities [DVD] (DVD)
This series dealt with some important ideas but I think the normally very good Andrew Marr rather overreached himself with this one. The problem is that he's talking about places he obviously doesn't know much about. As someone who lives and works in Tokyo I had to smile to myself when he said it would be "unthinkable for a Tokyo commuter train to be late". Ha! He must have read this in a book somewhere for the truth is that many trains - including mine - are late these days. He also rolled out the same old tired cliches about Tokyo that again bear very little resemblance to the varied, colourful street life that you see everywhere in central Tokyo. My feeling overall was that, if he could be so off the mark about a city I'm familiar with, it's unlikely he was very accurate with his descriptions of other cities. His other series are much better.

1.0 out of 5 stars Andrew Marr's bank account is bursting!, 27 Jun 2011
This review is from: Andrew Marr's Megacities [DVD] (DVD)
I have watched this serious after taking hedex tablets for the presenter jumps about like the preverbial kangaroo. His excitement at getting this commission is obvious but he is boring, repetative and leaves you none the wiser. This is yet another BBC money making scam by treating the viewrs as stupid, dumb, coach potatoes. I would suggest that in order to learn about cities, even mega-cities you would be best to read the UN Habitat reports on their websites. They are more explanetory and useful than Marr's foghorn salutations. Every city has its good and bad points and only we as a species can change the future of our planet to one of economical, environmental and social sustainable developement. Buy the dvd but think about the cost of getting rid of the plastic packaging and the number of dvd's like this that end up in landfill!
