The Sound of Music was one of the first feature films I went to see at the cinema, and I have loved this film ever since. This book kept me captivated throughout, and lived up to my imagination of how wonderful Maria Von Trapp was. It gives a clear insight into the history surrounding the war , and how it affected the family. I would thoroughly recommend reading this book to anyone who loves history.

I read this book in the seventies - and was interested to reread it now. The story of the Trapp family provides an interesting view of life around the time of WW2 both sides of the Atlantic - and sets in context the musical version. I must admit to finding some of the more religious aspects of the book difficult to stomach - but that is, of course, seeing it through my non religious eyes.

I've seen the film The Sound of Music which is a lovely film to watch. I was really interested in the Von Trapp family that when I got this kindle book I couldn't put it down, the film shows the first part of a true story. But when you read this
book it is so much different as to what actually happened.
I would recommend this book to anyone who like the Sound of Music.

I was so suprised when I discoverd a tatterd copy on my mothers shelf. The movie is so diffrent from the story. I liked the movie but Johannes,Lorli, and Rosemary were forgotten. When they decide to hold the music camp, I coud just picture little Maria teaching her little students the recorder. Also why leave out the true names of all besides Maria and Georg? What happend to Johanna, Martina,Hedwig,Agathe,Rupert, Werner, and Maria? Over all this was a 10 star book. I reccomend it to ages 11-?

I bought this after seeing a programme on television - and am really pleased I did! I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this - found it hard to put down, feeling compelled to keep reading! Loved reading about the 'real' Von Trapp family exploits - mostly happy but some sad.

Would recommend to anyone to likes 'The Sound of Music'.

Very different from the musical but a very interesting read. I'm a very avid reader and if a book can't keep my interest in the first 2 or 3 pages I will not continue reading it, but it kept my interest the whole way through. I would definitely recommend this to any reader.

Maria was a devout Roman Catholic and this shines through this account of her life before and after the Second World War. She was clearly a strong character, determined and full of faith, with a huge love for her whole family and all she met.

Read this when I was at school and lovely to have the opportunity to re read it for a very cheap price in deal of the day. I am really enjoying it but it is probably for the older folks rather than a young persoms read.
