This little book contains some eerie and fascinating first hand accounts of strange and inexplicable events. Perusing its pages is a great way to spend an hour by the fireside on a cold winter evening, but be warned, once started, it is rather difficult to put down again...

This is a great book, I loved it as 'It Happened To Me' is my favorite part of Fortean Times so to get so many stories in one hit is really good. For those of you who don't read Fortean Times the stories are eye witness accounts of strange events. Great book at a great price.

I'm a bit of a dichotomy when it comes to (supposed) real-life stories of the supernatural: I'm naturally skeptical, always looking for a more prosaic explanation of what are described as paranormal events, but at the same time really 'wanting to believe'. This book definitely falls among those stories that are fascinatingly believable. There are fantastic coincidences, inhuman creatures, ghosts, bizarre voices on the phone lines, and time slips. The only aspect missing is UFOs, but this is a book of the paranormal. Of course the contributors in some cases could be telling a tall tale, but that can't be the reality for all. For anyone interested in the supernatural, folklore and urban myth this is a must buy.

A genuinely interesting book with lots of strange and (often) creepy annecdotes covering ghosts, random panics, freaked out animals, doubles, time warps and the like.

The thing that makes this book so much fun is that the weirdness is of the sort we have all experienced, dogs taking fright, faces that resolve into a tangle of vines or the intense feeling of being followed and watched; combined with deeper and darker tales that would be frightening it true. The first type making the second type more plausable and life a little more edgy.

The book is slim, made up of readers letters, it's pocketable and it's episodic nature mean you can dip in at random and find something to fill that 3 minute gap between trains or while standing in a queue. If you like Fortean Times, this is a wise investment, and is re-readable several times. it's a pity is so short.

Good books on the paranormal are rarer than verified bits of the Roswell spaceship. Fortunately, this volume hits exactly the right tone, being a collection of first-hand accounts of weirdness (taken from the eponymous Fortean Times column). The first-hand perspective serves the accounts very well indeed, placing them in the correct realm of "inexplicable things that have happened to certain individuals", rather than presenting them, as most paranormal tomes do, as "indisputable proof of something-or-other", which they are not. They're simply strange, funny, sad, disquieting or downright terrifying stories, the best of which you will remember long after reading.

To me this book seems to have a more interesting and convincing stable of "true stories" regarding the paranormal and weird than the many books on the subject. The people who submitted their stories (to the Fortean Times magazine) just seemed to be saner and more credible than say, a man in your local giving such an account. Perhaps it's the non-sensationalism of the accounts, the thoughtful descriptions and maybe sometimes the mundaness of their strange experiences.
As I result, I rate this book highly.

This is a great, if a tad expensive, foray into the baffling world of paranormal and unexplained phenomena.

Ordinary people tell some truly extraordinary stories, some of which, if true, are quite disturbing.

My favourite is the bloke who, while on holiday in Blackpool, went out for a drink at a nearby pub and got a whole lot more than he was expecting.

This gem of a book would make an ideal gift for anyone who has an open mind and an interest in the weird and wonderful.

After reading 'It Happened To Me', I began to ponder on a few strange, one-off incidents that I myself experienced many years ago but had put to the back of my mind due to their bizarre and inexplicable nature. I wonder how many other people have done the same.

Highly recommended.

I bought this book as I'm a big fan of the Fortean times, it's got everything odd/strange/spooky and has a good amount of chapters on intresting topics like 'Freaky Phonecalls' and 'Little People' etc. A must buy if your interested in the paranormal!

This if fab. All great stories condensed into one book. As the stories are really short you can dip in and out whenever you want to. I find myself taking it on the school run with me to read whilst waiting for them to come out. Looking forward to getting the others to.

Could have done with less stories of the '40 years ago when I was 9 years of age' sort (never very convincing), and I'd have liked a lot more stories for my buck, but so original and thoroughly entertaining!
